Re: SWISS Announces Zurich To Washington D.C. and Osaka

I'm surprised Swiss doesn't already fly IAD-ZRH. UA & LX both fly ZRH-EWR/SFO. In October 1996, Swissair flew IAD-BOS-ZRH twice a week on the 743. it is part of the deal I guess. Another angle of the issue is that why BRU and IAD is only served by UA... SN flies IAD-BRU, along with UA. Almost a...

Re: The Rest of New England (BDL/PVD/MHT/PWM/ORH/BTV/HVN/BGR) - 2019

As noted in another thread, CapeAir is starting PWM-BOS In September. A bit funny that Portland got BOS service before BTV I know the BTV management is laser-focused on getting a Delta CRJ to serve that route. I don’t think they ever sought 9-seat CapAir Cessna; not the niche they’re looking to fil...

But my question and concern has always been legitimate: why did this plane choose to land in that weather when the other crews chose to divert elsewhere. I suspect, but don't know for a fact, that fuel was getting far more critical to them, then most other flights. I'd also note that the weather th...

DAB-FLL never made a lot of sense. There's little O&D on the route as most people would simply drive. Traffic on I-95 is never fun, but it's still far cheaper and more cost effective for most to drive. After that, you're relying on connections in FLL, but those don't make much sense either. Most...

The terminal (small as it is) should be able to handle what little traffic there is...as there's only a 3x weekly to DEN, 2x weekly to ORD and Via with 3x weekly to SFB. This is magnified because if you pull G4 enplanents out of the base CPE for the current terminal it's going to dramatically spike the costs for all other carriers. The costs don't just go away after all, they just get divided over fewer passengers. Not really in this case. Remember, G4 is a relativ...

Nice adds for UA at IAD...definitely part of a large strengthening of connecting flows through IAD. It's funny though that RSW/SRQ are year-round, but MIA will remain seasonal.

UA had allowed IAD-Florida to shrivel down to almost nothing at one point, so finally undoing that mistake.

IMHO, anything over 50% is very bad and that's basically the whole list. Guess what, this is just the top 200 markets, it's SO MUCH WORSE once you get below that. There are basically no competitive markets below the top 200. That's because most of the small markets can't sustain multiple carriers. ...

That's not a very high standard of gate utilization, JAXDan. Do they average ten flights a gate between 6AM and 10PM? If so, then JAX might need more gates. Re: OAG Changes 11/25/2018:UA Adds PAE-DEN/SFO;DY Adds MAD-JFK/LAX

This tells me you aren't that familiar with the D.C. area. Only 693,000 people live in D.C. The Virginia and Maryland suburbs are where the other 5.4 million people live. Even most of the 5.4 million people in Virginia and Maryland are closer to DCA (or BWI) than IAD. Only about 1.5 million people ...

Re: UA Continues DEN Expansion - New Flights to SRQ/VPS/PBI/PNS/BRO

I was wondering at some point if UA would try DEN-PNS given that F9 flies the route 2-3x weekly and WN flies it on Sat/Sun in the summer. I’m pretty skeptical about PNS-FLL. It will be competing with AA flying PNS-MIA 3x daily on ERJs. It’s a longer flight for a prop and given Silver’s poor track record, I’m not convinced it will last. It’s great to have new service and I hope it works, but I don’t trust Silver.
