Re: Early retirement for flight crews

Why don't the pilots voluntarily work for a lower wage, at least temporarily? The airline executives are forgoing all of their wages for the time being. What does the average pilot make? $400,000? Maybe agree to work for 75% of that until the airline stabilizes again. Isn't that better than being o...

Re: Flight Crews Housed an Hour Away from Airport?

If you have a decent layover time nobody wants to be at the airport. Speak for yourself. I would rather be close to the airport in a nice hotel with a restaurant and a decent gym than in a downtown hotel with long van times especially with an early morning report. I include in this 30 hour layovers...

If it is an Airbus aircraft, then the first step I would do is the same. But for an Airbus, if the Captain is pressing on the priority button on his sidestick, it would be impossible for the PM then to take over as PF, wouldn't it? What would one do in this case? At my airline (and many other if no...

They don't. I have flown both the L-1011 and the B-744 (which is more efficient than earlier 747s) and your premise is flawed.

Back awhile ago I started a thread how often do they fly while not working. Various answers due to where they lived and a few other reasons. I was watching the (extremely hilarious) "Livin' the Dream!" videos about all the annoying things that pilots experience (highly recommended). Here's a part of one I found interesting: https://youtu.be/5-knyUBbpgI?t=108 Gist of it is: Captains frequently admonish FOs for using the speed b...

$1500 probably would have paid for the roundtrip, plus you get the story to tell forever of Cam Newton buying your seat from you. Sorry, I never heard of Cam Newton so that would be no inducement for me. And who has heard of Cam Newton? You always seem to come into these threads either feigning you...

I had to break out the training manual for this one. Landing. Just check the flaps and you'll see they are extended. It's hard to tell based on that alone. I never flew this airplane but I have a vague recollection of someone telling me these planes had variable flap settings depending on what kind of takeoff they wanted to make. In an A320, for exam...
