I'm not sure you're able to convert a FAA ATP licence to a JAA ATPL (I don't think so, there's a big difference in testing). In the US, you have to be 23 to be eligible for the licence. I'm not sure if there is such a thing as a frozen FAA ATP, but under JAA regs, very common if you undergo ab-initi...

I usually give the baggage door on the Cessnas and Pipers I fly a tap, just a way of making sure it's closed and locked. Perhaps I'm over doing it, but hey...

Also, I always put the keys by the windshield so I am confident the ignition is not on while doing the preflight.

Libby (S59), Montana I believe had commercial service up until not too long ago (Metroliners). Libby is a tiny town with a population of only 2600 within the city limits and the airport is, well, tiny too. To give you a hint, that's where the movie Always with Richard Dreyfuss was filmed. johan

Lol Ralgha, I didn't quite mean that the ailerons are as efficient as fully deflected spoilers... That would be scary. However, as you said, it alters the chord line of that part of the wing which has a breaking tendency that is fully noticeable.

Well, rudder is the way to go, at least in the 172. One of the ailerons has a tendency to work as an airbrake which will only make the situation even worse.
