Lufthansa Said To Buy B779 & A359 Aircraft Part 1

If the B779 order is true I do wonder if Boeing has taken their B748's part exchange
Or, perhaps Boeing will redeliver their B748i as B748f?

I think we can count out the B787-10 on grounds it'll be short on payload range

Everything else other than B777x is a possibility!
Could there be a surprise A380 order?

RE: A 332 Vs. B 788 In The Real World

The B788 fuel burn advantage over the A332 is about 15% for both trip and seat for your nominal 8hr 4000nm flight. The B788 fuel burn advantage grows towards 20% at the A332 max range. Despite the hype, the majority of this improvement (A good 12% of the 15%) comes from the engines and not the CFRP....

Personally I think this is a strategic mistake by Boeing. To exclude PW on the B737max albeit cause they went the sub optimal route in terms of BPR will likely prove a mistake. If that means cutting the price to make up for other short coming that's Boeing choice!

Better still and with added cost a 70-200mm f2.8 L+ 2.0 extender (i.e. 200*1.4*1.6=640mm) At least you would have an excellent lens for other things than shooting aircraft. Interes...

On average a commerical airliner will get hit by lightning once per year. Lightning usually hits a extremity (wingtip, nose or tail surface) and exits through a different extremity.

There will be many other threads on this subject.

The mould lines being on the outside of the fuselage should also led to a very smooth external finish. The B787 barrels results in a fairly rough external finish

I would expect a follow on ILFC order for A350s.
I think they'll take between 1 in 10 to 1 in 15.
Therefore if Airbus have 500-550 orders for A350 by the end of next year ILFC will need a follow on order for 20-30 more aircraft.

An interesting comparison would be the seat mile cost of 2 B787-9s vs 1 A380-8. I think this would be too close to be significant either way however the A380 will have the advantage of space per seat. At present 2 B787-9s might be the biggest Challenger B has against the A380. Gents. Don't underestimate the effect the dollar has on Airbus. Since DEC 02 the Dollar has gone from 1:1 to 1:1.4849 soon to be 1:1.5/1.6. This means that Airbus at present is at a major disadvantage of $5B EBIT per year with respect to DEC02. [0.10cents=$1] <a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/curren...

The A380-900 development costs will most likely be covered by the cost to airlines converting from -800s to -900. If 60 frames are converted with the addition of $40M thats $2.4B. IMO that seems fair. Even 60 frames with the addition of $30M ($1.8B) would be enough.

[Edited 2007-11-20 09:56:04]
