International A330 pax were impacted as well. My reservation MXP-JFK on Aug 22nd suffered the same fate. then it ended up rerouting me LIN-FCO-JFK. I called Delta, 9 hours later they've responded and fixed it back to the original flight...

This makes no sense to me. If the concern is keeping China out, shouldn't the agreement allow subsidies in equal amount to spur the development of new cutting edge airliners that China couldn't compete with?

I've just booked a ticket to Milan and on the return segment (MXP-JFK) on Aug 22) it is showing A330-900neo operated by Alitalia (DL 6691 codeshare). I don't remember seeing an order for A330-900neo's by Alitalia. Is it a mistake or somehow they've ended up with some? I don't see this aircraft type ...

As others said, airlines are private businesses they enforce their own policies. They have the absolute right to refuse service to anyone not following said policies. Law has nothing to do with it. Don't like it, feel free to not fly with them... that is you power to choose.

I honestly think the MD10 could have benefited from being a twin-engine, but I am not sure if at the time you had the thrust rating needed in an efficient enough engine. Could have extended the vertical stabilizer and ruder giving it more control too...

The DL intl cuts are so dramatic that while it is not too surprising given the staff reductions, I am a little surprised they would do them now. That is ground speed. If it has nice tail winds, it is not at all unusual. You sometimes even catch 800mph in the jet stream. Of course, this is ground speed. They are still doing .82 to .85 Mach, Otherwise the aircraft would disintegrate.
