I am only the lower level Premier, but UAL has always upgraded me when I wanted to do this except when flights were very full - I could upgrade alot more often but it isn't always worth it if you are already in economy plus and it is an evening or night flight where you aren't going to want to eat. ...

IAD has always been great when I've gone through there- they especially have a very efficient system to get your bags after clearance back to your domestic flight - never spent more then 5-10 minutes.

I'm not sure it is USAIR "0" and ATA "1". According to recent financial analysis, ATA is near default on their loans and may not be around too much longer - another LCC who dropped fares to drive out their competitotrs but instead hung themselves out to dry.

I wouldn't book on Expedia - just use it to search for flights then go to the airlines site. Usually you get cheaper fares from the airlines, frequent flier miles, and your seats are assigned. Plus you save the Expedia charges.

SFO can have frequent fog/low ceilings which result in shutting down one runway, leaving only one arrival runway. Generally burns off by noon, but on bad days, can hang in all day and while things are better since the downturn post 2001, delays can go systemwide to 2-4 hours.
