I seem to recall that the residents near SUX actually voted to keep the code as they like it. In the US a lot of codes change when smaller airports experience an increase in traffic or get an ATCT, X47 to XFL for example.

Just check the main hotel chains websites, you would be surprised at the rates during non peak times. We stayed at the Renaissance Hotel 57 for 139/nt last Saturday. Not as close as others to times square but even those were sub 200
