RE europe to Hawaii, I don't understand why US airlines never tried a virtual direct (one-stop) flight on single aircraft, even once weekly and seasonal, to test the waters. Western Airlines used to fly HNL-ANC-LGW with a DC-10-30 in 1981. The route was flown twice a week. They didn't make any mone...Jump to post
I hope someone fills the void for Germany- Fort Myers service if all long haul is gone soon which I suspect it will be. I would think this would be an obvious choice for LH/Eurowings to pick up. After all, Eurowings seems to have had trouble finding routes that stick. This would be a solid optoin. ...Jump to post
TXL will have Miami and New York-JFK only, for a total of 2 routes. I just saw on my facebook page that AB is no longer accepting reservations for MIA-TXL after November 2. I tried to make dummy bookings MIA-TXL in late November and everything is thru DUS. No more nonstop flights MIA-TXL. JFK still...Jump to post

Thanks Mr. Chugach. Not a big deal, but in my narrow viewpoint, seeing a Q-400 on that long of a leg is fascinating and curious. Very interesting, and again I sure hope the crew had some snacks... Well there are Saab 340s and regular dash 8s that make the trip all the time. Do you think the turbopr...Jump to post
Which airlines had BOTH the DC-10 and the L-1011 in their fleets? I know Pan Am did after the National merger, but were there others? Delta had both two different times, United got L-1011's when they bought Pan Am's Pacific division, and I believe Hawaiian had both at one time. Also Eastern had a s...Jump to post
I was in a mom-and-pop discount store last month (yes, June) and they had some Christmas decorations for sale. Also at our local Walmart, they started selling back-to-school stuff on July 5. I'm sure the Halloween stuff will be on the shelves shortly.Jump to post
This showed up on my facebook page a few hours ago. I thought it was very interesting: Remembering the Pan Am Worldport 3 hrs · This is our latest rendering of a United/Pan Am livery. This one is important because we had a big development today. We talked on the phone with the United executives in c...Jump to post
Take the Tri-Rail. That's fine most of the time. However if you arrive in MIA in the evening on a Saturday or Sunday you might have to wait up to three hours for a train. That happened to me recently when I arrived in MIA at 1800 on a Sunday. The Tri-Rail wasn't scheduled to leave MIA until after 2...Jump to post

Could this be a flash sale ONLY on Priceline? I've changed so departure airports to another local one and the prices are still low, but again only on priceline. Keep in mind that Eurowings has several low-cost flights from the USA to Cologne-Bonn and Norwegian will soon announce Dusseldorf as a lon...Jump to post
The Lockheed Constellation met the requirements of TWA for a transcontinental airliner with a 3500 mile range. TWA also demanded that the tail of the Connie could not be over a certain height so it could fit in TWA's hangars at the time. This resulted in the triple tail design. Rumor has it when Boe...Jump to post

Not to pick on TWA, but didn't flight 800 start the fuel tank inerting systems that are now found in aircraft fuel tanks? Speaking of TWA 800 I believe the first TWA 800 accident in Rome in 1964 led to the changes in the way emergency slides are operated, from being manually operated to the automat...Jump to post

My brother used to work on an oil drilling ship in the SIN area. He was on a 21 days on, 21 days off schedule. He lived near SFO. The company flew him back and forth between SFO and SIN. He was always booked in Y but he had so many frequent flyer miles he usually flew in J or F.Jump to post

I am always puzzled as to why folks want to start a new airline with an old name. A previous Western failed, several Pan Am's, we're not too sure about Eastern, and PeoplExpress was a total debacle. There's a few more as well. A more appropriate name change could be the resurrection of the former T...Jump to post

All those souvenir brochures that end up in the trash when you get home.
A laptop and the cords that go with it. Replaced by a 7-inch tablet.
Headsets. Earbuds do the trick.

Also, on the original matter, in the days US Airways was around they used to have the 7xx number range reserved for transatlantic flights. Each one of them had a domestic tag-on to a variety of destinations (most of them in Florida or at the West Coast). US700/701 for example was an LAX-PHL-FRA-PHL...Jump to post

My apologies if this has already been discussed, but I've noticed N283EA ferried to MIA-WOE for I presume to be returned to the lessor, although this plane is not even 6 months old. It is so much easier to bash a new livery than it is to praise one. That being said, I like it overall except for two things: The maple leaf should not be below the window line. IMO it should be above the windows. I'm not too keen on the "raccoon mask" around the cockpit windows either. Ov...Jump to post
The one I thought was great at first was Western Airlines "Bud Light" livery. It looked fine on newly delivered planes but when the white paint was removed from their current planes it looked very dull. In the end I wish they kept the fuselages white.Jump to post
See the post about the missing B727. These will all be going to Boeing for refurbs and modifications to be used by drug cartels. Are drugs similar to fish in weight and volume? If that is the case, then the 727 is the wrong choice for the drug cartels. They should in fact be looking at 757s, and co...Jump to post
