I believe the 747-100/200 outlasted the 747SP in revenue service. (I'm not counting private or government planes.)
The same goes with the L-1011-500. I believe it's bigger brother outlasted it.
Some may say it's a different model, but I think the A300 will outlast the A310.
UA used to operate a 744 ORD-IAD. It was slight overkill but it was a tag on the NRT-ORD flight. I wasn't complaining. It was nice to fly on a 744 on that route.
HP used to operate a 747 PHX-LAS.
WA used to operate a DC-10 MIA-FLL. It was a tag on the LAX-MIA flight.
The airport code is HSSS.
The captain's decision to return was PURRfect.
Riddle: I made a connection in AMS but I have never flown into or out of AMS. How did I do that?
Answer: I arrived in AMS on a train and connected to another train.
The connection at AMS was on the same platform which is underground. Because of that, I didn't see any airplanes at AMS.
Saw headline on CNBC website but can't open - https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/18/why-ultra-low-cost-carrier-spirit-airlines-is-falling-behind.html What exactly is the author trying to say? This reads "Spirit was one of the few perpetually profitable and growing carriers in the U.S. It is undergoi...Jump to post
More importantly, since when can Alaska flights be booked on UA.com??? Doing a dummy booking in mid-July for ANC-FAI, and 5 AS flights are bookable on UA.com  I was wondering the same thing when I looked too  Being curious, I did a dummy booking for May 17. The UA flight shows up on Pri...Jump to post
Windrose has the worse livery of any airline I've ever seen Wow, you weren't kidding. What an eyesore. I actually quite like the colours! :cloudnine: Unfortunately same couldn't be said for the interior, which is really "psychedelic" :hypnotized: 2304159 OMG!!! Please turn it off. This is...Jump to post
Concourse E/F in ORD. Built for the 1960's. Concourse C/D at IAD. A "temporary" structure built in the 1980's that should have been torn down 20 years ago. All of Terminal 1 in LAS. Even with renovations it still looks like a 1970's era terminal. Concourses F and G in MIA. Not only does it...Jump to post
Delta and the A310. They were only operated between 1991 and 1995. Replaced with the 767-300. Did they actually order them? My memory tells me Delta got A310 in a single-shot purchase of Pan Am routes to Europe, and they had to choose between taking 747's (world's oldest), DC-10's or Airbuses. A310...Jump to post
It may depend on union contracts as well. I know that at the larger stations and hubs of PMUA, mechanics marshalled planes as well as push them back and tow. I don't know if it's still true today. Union contracts can be very specific about what tasks are accomplished by which work group.Jump to post
1526025,5467689 In the first picture you can see the aft baggage compartment in the aft of the cabin. The baggage compartment is very small and ramp agents needed to be creative to maximize the space available. In the second picture you can see the under belly storage known as the "pod." ...Jump to post
I'm not totally convinced all of those aircraft in the original photo were able to taxi in either, especially the one mid-right side. I was once on a UA DC-8 arriving in SFO that shut down in the alleyway and was towed into a parallel gate. I assume the plane you are referencing was towed in as wel...Jump to post
Here's an interesting one: https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL2540 The San Francisco 49ers flew from EWR to LWB on a UA 753 after they beat the NY Jets. Next week's game is back at Met Life Stadium when they play the NY Giants. Instead of flying all the way back to SJC and back to EWR on Friday,...Jump to post
A-340. They're cheap to obtain, they can carry a decent payload, and according to a.net logic, they can fly slow. What’s their payload after deletion of the center gear though? Probably very little difference with or without the center gear. I seriously doubt the plane would be at maximum weight on...Jump to post
Here is a video explaining the operation of the nose cargo door on a 747. Compared to a passenger door it takes too long to open and close and there are extra procedures needed for its operation.
Back to W E S T E R N now though, was the Boeing 720 the main reason Western skipped the 727-100? Truthfully it was probably a great skip, and am just wondering the decision making or timing regarding this fortunate 727-100 skip. Western ordered the 720B in the spring of 1960 with the first deliver...Jump to post

Frontier is quietly launching MIA-PBI service this Friday. This is a triangular PHL-MIA-PBI-PHL routing likely due to CARES Act minimum service requirements but I'm amused that I could buy a plane ticket from Miami to West Palm Beach for less than it would cost to ride Brightline. Not to mention th...Jump to post
SFO. In the early 90's I used to live in San Bruno, CA just across the freeway from SFO. I used to walk down San Bruno Ave over the freeway to the long term parking lot next to United airlines MX base. From there I would get on the long term parking bus and ride it to work at the terminal. This was ...Jump to post
The ultimate white elephant in the USA is Everglades Jetport (TNT) about 33 miles west of MIA. The ambitious plan was to have 6 parallel runways and be the SST airport of the future. One runway was built before the project was abandoned. Before the widespread use of simulators, airlines would use th...Jump to post
I always thought the Indian Head tail design looked terrible on the 727-200s. I think it would have looked better if the red color had extended all the way down to the bottom of the #2 engine inlet. The placement of the indian head livery at the top of the tail of the 727 looked awful. It should ha...Jump to post
Come to PBI - it has the same exact problem. Many of the excess rental cars have been moved to the paved long-term parking area, but there are hundreds more still parked on a grass lot adjacent to the airport. There must be thousands of rental cars parked bumper-to-bumper, door handle-to-door handl...Jump to post

In the Airport History facebook page there is a picture of the TWA terminal at JFK. One of the 747's had jetways attached to the R1 and R2 doors and a third jetway that was stretched out next to the L1 door but not attached. It is possible to use 3 jetways on a 747 but I don't know if it was ever do...Jump to post

Dade-Collier (TNT) in the middle of the Florida Everglades was going to be the airport of the future to replace MIA and FLL. It was supposed to have 6 parallel runways.
