So in certification terms the plane is a warmed over 744, but in marketing terms it's a considerably changed product over what's out there? There's a disconnect there. To read the marketing blurb, the 748i is similar to the 744 in appearance principally.

The biggest thorn in the A380's side presently is the weakness of the dollar against the Euro. If the dollar recovers against the Euro, you will see the break even figure decrease, just as the corrollary is also correct if the dollar continues to decline.

Given that the A350 is more expensive to buy than the 787, it's operating economics must stack up pretty well, or it wouldn't get a second look from any airline.
