Re: The Rest of Michigan Aviation Thread - 2021

Just curious - how is the rest of MI doing in terms of ramping up frequencies to pre-covid levels? Kind of frustrating to see AZO-ORD only twice daily on AA for the summer. Now that we're all vaccinated I want to go see my folks more, but fares are just bonkers.

I’m shocked to see OKC. Even more shocked to see TUL. But AA has built a pretty good network out of OKC at a time when WN got stagnant. People make this argument every time east coast to Hawaii is discussed: That there will be no demand for it because a beach destination in the Caribbean or Mexico is so much closer. In many ways, yes. Basically, when the differential is only down to 90 minutes, and you are driving a distance anyways, it is often more desirable to drive the extra 90 minutes at that point to get a non-stop flight somewhere. If you have to connect somewhere by flying from one of the closer small ...

DBQ is also a very expensive airport to fly from. Fares are ALWAYS higher than the surrounding airports. ORD is only about 2.5-3 hours away too, so by the time you drive 90 minutes to CID or MLI or MSN you might as well drive to ORD. (MSN also has a decent 4 lane highway now from DBQ) Driving 90 mi...
