I am wondering about the use of the upper deck of the Boeing 747-400BCF. To make maximum use of the main deck, the 747-400F and the 747-8F have a shortened upper deck as the main deck area below the "bubble" has a lower ceiling height than the rest of the main deck. This is of course impo...Jump to post
Winds out of 290 gusting to 26 Knots...That is a calculated crosswind of 24.4 knots for the 22's, or about 27 MPH. Might be over the Max crosswind component for the aircraft and weights. A whole lot of fun to try and land in, especially if you are lightly loaded. 200, not 290. Crosswind shouldn't b...Jump to post
This evening Air Force 2 upon takeoff from MHT experienced a birdstrike. The aircraft quickly returned to MHT. https://twitter.com/JeanWMUR/status/1308560345414471680 VP Mike Pence inspecting the birdstrike https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Eij0M5qXYAMPi0H?format=jpg&name=medium As AF2 is a military ...Jump to post
That shouldn't be possible unless the left strike deflected the wing enough to allow the #2 to strike. I need to see a video. That is a landing rougher than I have any experience with. I'm betting crew fatigue. Give the pilots a wizz quiz and a Covid19 test! I've read a bunch on how Covid19's reduc...Jump to post
I'm not sure if it's related to why it was stored but in the FAA Service Difficulty Report database there's a bunch of entries for corrosion on the plane. They also mention some miss drilled holes. Maybe it has something to do with it, maybe not. If you go to https://av-info.faa.gov/sdrx/Query.aspx ...Jump to post
The climb power transitions to full power climb around 15,000ft so it doesn't matter after that point. Usually the aircraft is just left in CLB-2 unless you just want to climb faster to get above 10k or because ATC requests an expedited climb. As for the performance, I don't remember but it can be p...Jump to post
What a joke. Some of the inspectors like to make it their personal goal to enforce arbitrary restrictions. At my old airline we had a cruise checklist that had us double check the sterile light is off just because the FAA inspector for our airline said we HAD to have a cruise checklist so they put a...Jump to post
Probably maintenance powering up the plane for whatever reason. ADS-B is normally broadcasting even if the transponder is set to standby. I see it sometimes with JetBlue planes parked at LGB at night when maintenance is working on them. Okay I re-read what you wrote. I would guess it's an artifact t...Jump to post
Two new questions regarding the 747 stabilizer tank: 1) What specific changes were made to the tail assembly to accomodate the tank? 2) On stock 747-400's operating without the stabilizer tank, is the entire tank removed, or just the outboard sections of the tank? Thanks I don't know why you keep a...Jump to post
Main deck fire indication but it was false. But, that makes no difference. You still have to treat it as a valid main cargo deck fire. Of course but in the end it was still false. I simply stated they had a false fire indication. I didn't say how the crew handled it. I don't know how they did but I...Jump to post
Could be a number of things. Maybe they were testing sensors, maybe engine tests with more dense air, anything really. Maybe they flew at 10,000 because they wanted to pretty low but wanted to go faster than 250kts. Go to 10, then go as fast as you can....Jump to post
With this, the plane company can have one pilot in the flight deck while the other pilot becomes the senior member of the cabin crew or takes on another role as a reserve pilot, or even have a situation where the cabin crew are trained to be a first officer. What a joke. This will be the day where ...Jump to post
Awesome to see Nobody should have their dream squashed because they were born with an easily manageable condition. It's not about squashing anyone's dreams, it's about protecting the public. I always say there's no room to worry about hurt feelings in aviation because it is a dangerous industry if ...Jump to post
For years I've been saying that LAX needs to ban personal vehicles from the Horseshoe of Misery. Only allow permitted vehicles such as shuttle buses, taxis, Uber/Lyft, rental car shuttles. Have an off site drop off/pick up lot and have buses take passengers to/from the terminals. I guess LAWA decide...Jump to post

Airlines should abandon airports with Draconian Noise Laws.. That's what the ultimate goal is, as is the case with many laws that our lawmakers create. When do you think AA will pull out of SYD? What are you talking about? The syd curfew? Obviously they don't want SYD to close as it's the only majo...Jump to post

One reason why they deplaned might have been for PR and to de-escalate. I used to fly passengers and after the whole Dr. Dao fiasco and the rash of passengers recording any type of disagreement many of us had discussions about how to deal with this. Many of us believed was the best solution is in th...Jump to post
Recently I was on a ticket from HNL-CVG with routing HNL-SFO-DEN-CVG and the DEN leg canceled. I got off in SFO, went to a hotel and took Delta to CVG later that night instead of wait for the reroute. Wonder if they consider what I did to be an issue. Why would that be an issue? Probably pulled back in to let other traffic in that had been waiting. Happens sometimes.Jump to post
I'm sure in the mess of getting the plane back with an emergency they just forgot to stop fuel. A big screw up but easy to see how it happened.Jump to post
Given that it is a payment platform the rules and regulations that govern its use are much more stringent than those of a social media site that may or may not be classified as a platform or publisher. I don't think it will be an issue. And if it were, it would surely get the eyes of regulatory aut...Jump to post

Hypothetical scenario. What if the aircraft is deemed not worth the cost of fixing and is written off. What would be the procedure for PHL and LH? Doubt that would happen but even if it was, it would get a temp fix, then fly it somewhere for a permanent repair or scrapping. Delta did that with thei...Jump to post
Not sure how it happened. Maybe a little wake turbulence during the flare from a preceding airplane. That's all I can think of. Here's a page from the Flight Crew Training Manual that shows what it takes to have a cowling strike on landing. I'm guessing they had a pitch of around 4 degrees on landin...Jump to post
Hypothetically, let’s say a 747 encounters an engine failure shortly after reaching cruising altitude. However, it still has over 75 tons of fuel left, and it would be a waste of fuel to dump it to land. Would they try to fly as far as they can? Or would they dump the fuel and try to land at the ne...Jump to post
Combined with the turbulence, I could imagine the following scenario: A crew member / the jump seater returns to his seat for the landing. In turbulence, he stumbles onto the center pedestal. Instinctively, he graps the throttles and by conservation of momentum pushes them full forward. The surpris...Jump to post
One thing I think is funny that the FAA and US airlines do is to combat distractions and fatigue they ban non-company related reading material and ban controlled naps. Just ban fatigue and naps. Next thing you know we will eliminate murders and robberies by making a law against them. FAA: I know how...Jump to post
I'm sure it will come out soon but it seems mechanical.
If I had to place bets I would play it on runaway pitch trim with the autopilot staying engaged until it couldn't manage it anymore then just said "peace out, your problem now" then at that point the pilots could not recover in time.

This is not a W & B issue. It's a performance chart limitation. The performance charts only go up to a certain temperature. I assume you can pay more to have them go to a higher temp but why bother when it only happens once every 2-3 years? The ERJ-175 is the same issue. Limited to ISA+35C.Jump to post
I would not go to ExpressJet. Basically anyone but them. Their future is anything but certain. Anything else is a safer bet than them. If you just want to do it for fun and don't care about being on reserve the whole time there then I would consider it.Jump to post
Hopefully this will be the final act that improves Compass reliability on the west. It sucks. And Delta is aware. Have some fun and do a daily check in the afternoon and see how many Compass flights are running behind. Delta basically told Compass fix your west coast ops or else. This is the respon...Jump to post
