Re: Are alternatives to state-run airlines realistic?

There are VERY few countries where both the flag airline and the airports are privatized. Usually it is one or the other. The USA is certainly not in that group (with govt airports). Air travel is a way of creating economic development. Countries can use running airports or airlines to help push tha...

Re: Qatar Airways reveals loss for 2017/2018

Not sure what US carriers were doing 17 years ago has to do with anything. Air Senegal has been recapitalized a zillion times. Does any of that make QR's $69MM loss any more believable? Is it normal to not have any mention of capacity in your annual report? :scratchchin: The point was that even if ...

Re: Qatar Airways reveals loss for 2017/2018

I'm not sure the U.S. bankrolled its airlines after 9/11. A bunch went bankrupt in the years after, including all of the U.S. majors except American. Frontier, TWA, and within a couple of years, Delta ,Northwest. Within a couple of years US Airways, which was only rescued by a reverse merger/takeov...

I have to give this a +1 to this. I completely agree that WN doesn't really have a clear strategy in the Northeast outside of BWI. Just take a look at BOS vs MHT for example. WN drew down MHT in favor of BOS and the whole Boston operation hasn't really been all spectacular it seems while MHT has lo...

Does anybody know the implied default risk in a 9% rate? It depends on in what currency the bonds are. The 1 day lending rate at the Iceland central bank is 6 % and for 7 days or longer 5 %. Re: WW and FI Both Suspend Cleveland

Interesting they both announced this simultaneously. :stirthepot: Also interesting that both would leave. They both didn't announce this simultaneously (we knew about WOW Air weeks ago) and in the case of Icelandair I wouldn't call a seasonal suspension as "leaving". "Leaving" t...

Re: Norwegian reports strong passenger growth and high load factors in August

I think you've furthered my point here. Norwegian's growth is ~4.5X that of RyanAir yet their debt to equity ratio is 7X! Again - help us out here - what is the path to long-term independent financial viability? Also, because we're playing the stats game, even during RyanAir's more aggressive growt...
