I believe it was implemented by the African Union but you are correct about it being a farce. The problem is that many member states have just ignored it in the interest of protecting local carriers and the AU has no enforcement mechanism. Thanks for the clarification. I doubt Asky will fly to Cape...Jump to post

Whats the status of tonights flights in Accra? Taag Seem to have a flight via ABJ to luanda, new service was suppose to start next month. SAA JNB-ACC-ABJ upgraded from A320 to A330 SAA JNB- ACC-IAD. 1st segment landed in Accra however the 2nd leg of the flight is delayed by about 10hours. On a brigh...Jump to post
They been talking for over 3 years to fly to ACC but.... never happenedJump to post
Surprised not via ACC with the new venture ET been trying to set up in Accra. They could do the same they done with SAA, connect local traffic via Africa world airlines. Their LFW-LAX failed, i believed they moved some of their NYC to ABJ instead of LFW where passengers connect with Air Cote D'Ivoire.Jump to post
SV can do very well in western africa with destinations such as KAD, ACC, NIM, LOS, BKO.
They currently only fly to Kano with a 747.
Cargo operates into LOS and ACC

Malta to Addis? Sounds like a great way to lose money.
Its a shame not via ACC as they plan to open a new airline here. Instead of ABJ. I am wondering if SA flying JHB-ACC-IAD played into their decision. Just spitballing. Last 24hours AWA agreed with SAA to feed the ACC-IAD from LOS/ABV. Back in march 2018, ET was granted 5th freedom for Accra-Texas as...Jump to post

I believe the Air belgium operated to Cameroon or Brazzaville and received bad criticism due to it being sub-standard.
SAA adding extra capacity to IAD via Acc ( 5 weekly), this bring the total weekly flights between JNB-ACC to 9.
Brussels airlines will be going daily to Accra.
I don't know that I'd consider west Africa from BEY a long haul flight that needs a long range widebody. While it's 200ish miles further, TK flies IST-DKR and much of west Africa with 738/9 equipment. They use their A332 due to demand on cargo. QR flies a weekly DOH-LOS-ACC-BEY-DOH cargo! I did a f...Jump to post
Given that ET is in Star Alliance, could we see them introduce first flights to MUC or FRA? I can't imagine many would connect via ADD to Europe when other European carriers offer more direct and shorter travel times. Money talks. I have seen people fly JFK-DXB-ACC or LAX-JFK-ADD-ACC, LHR-NBO-ACC A...Jump to post
A330-900 seems larger and more range then MEA needs. Are JFK, GRU, Tokyo or Hong Kong on their horizon ? Just because the plane has long range doesn’t mean it can only operate 10h flights. Many A330-200s, 777-300ERs etc do medium haul or even short haul. And btw MEA do have a handful of long range ...Jump to post
UK and Germany are confirmed to be the 1st new Destinations for ET from ACC Can you provide a source? https://www.routesonline.com/news/29/breaking-news/281969/ethiopian-plans-uk-and-germany-routes-from-ghana/ I'm going to assume this will replace 3x of the 10x weekly flights between Addis Ababa an...Jump to post
Is that why they applied for IAH-ACC? For what i recall its a city in texas, IAH would make more sense. If ET routes some of its USA flights via ACC, Acc will have the one strong connection from US to Africa with SAA to IAD DL to JFK Rwandair to JFK or EWR ET to IAH, NYC (most likely), possibly LAX...Jump to post
Rumours a few of ASKY aircraft are heading to mazambique. Would be good if their west african hops, (LFW-EWR/LAX and ABJ-EWR) move to Accra. The venture will be great for a hub, routes which can be filled very quick are the obvious ones. LHR, DUS, HAM, FCO, BWI, JNB, DXB, NYC. They can establish som...Jump to post
They probanly relying on connections however coming back from LAX, not a single connection is available!
My parents live in Ghana and looking to fly to LAX (they might drive to LFW) and use ET as quicker then connecting via Europe
There is no connections from LAX to anywhere in west Africa via LFW without a long layover.
ET can easily fill the LAX-ADD with transit to JNB, SEZ, somalia and virtually anywhere in southern africa!
Yeah its a longer flight but £€¥ counts for a lot of people!
