Not sure what the panel was, but its likely that the noise you heard was the main landing gear. If you were doing circles, that places some stresses on the ldg gear that would cause that creaking.

Hmmm.....bad sequence valve dropping gear before doors are fully open or door failing to open completely? Not sure on the 767, but most doors open to full travel......and make it quite obvious when they're there....
