It's a bit stupid that they built a brand new airport with closely spaced parallel runways with no parallel taxiway in between. That is a huge mistake. Wizzair or Ryanair cannot fly UK-Turkey, as Turkey doesn't have open skies with the EU. Was discussed here before. only Easyjet can fly UK-Turkey as they have a UK AOC. Who knows what the situation will be after Brexit with AOC arrangements but I doubt we will see EU LCCs in Turkey unless TK release...

I agree that there has been a disproportionate amount of incidents lately in Turkey. Rapid growth with pilot training unable to catch up maybe? As a Turk I don’t want Turkey to have a bad rep a la Indonesia, so I hope something is done soon.

While I agree that environmental protection laws are slightly less enforced in Turkey (in writing they are in fact pretty harsh and there was a time many projects were stalled because of them), it is an illusion that infrastructure development takes place slower in the West due to environmental laws...

I too think this is starting to look ridiculous. The 345 and 332 are both unnecessary at this point, Even the richest of nations do not maintain this big a VIP fleet, bar the Arab sheikhs. And that isn't the competition we should be going after. Even our flag carrier doesn't fly the type.

I'm guessing too much pressure to open on time resulted in too much overtime. Setting unrealistic goals for a major greenfield airport is a mistake but hopefully it can be learned from.

I also don’t get this secrecy. It’s an airport name, why is it such a big secret? It’s not like we could object to whatever it is even if it were announced 2 years ago. Why wait till last day and then have to go through retitling freeway exits and whatever else has been titled “3rd Istanbul Airport”...
