Just giving thought to 789 deliveries from CHS.-AKL..At 7200nm it looks like about a 16.hr flight.. Not too excessive , looks like a non stop flight if they can get away early in the day. I note the route tracks pretty much over PPT..

You probably meant to say FY2019.

It makes good sense of the December introduction of the Code 2 789 by NZ with fewer Y seats but more premium seats

Has anyone seen any real numbers on NZ freight loads to/from US destinations? I often wondered how much of a factor freight was in their reluctance to put the 789s in their original configuration onto US routes. The common view on a.net seems to be that freight is now becoming marginal in long-haul...
Jump to postDoes anyone know whether NZ's 789 service is load restricted west-bound? Given the low frequency, do they offload passengers very often? I'd imagine it would be costly to reaccommodate. And has there been any change since the 789 replaced the 772? Westbound IAH -AKL the Code 2 789 is good for max p...
Jump to postFrom my reading it appears Houston city tourism is gutted for the forseeable future. I expect that NZ may have to review their frequency for a period of time.

My view is that NZ will shoot for the "big apple" NYC at some point. Before that it will probably be ORD. I expect that they will want to do both with one type since the sub fleets to do each would be be relatively small. In my view they will need the most efficient ~8500nm airplane they c...
Jump to postI can see pressure on Boeing from both QF and NZ for an earlier EIS for the B777-8X. This type looks a very good fit for the ULH aspirations of both carriers.
Jump to post[ Not sure why we see so much 77E bashing on this thread. The 77E is still very good at what it does, apart from fuel burn it is a far more versatile aircraft than the 787. Not only does it carry more pax over the same distance as the 787 it has a larger premium cabin and the ability to carry signif...
Jump to postNZ own some 77E's. My view is that these will be kept and used as needed across the network . A more prudent move than buying a similar number of new 789's.

My predictions of 2-3 yrs ago exactly... (We all love a bit of confirmation bias ;) ) Re comments that they should wait for the 777, id say that the potential to use cash they have tied up in A380 deposits would be a significant factor in the decision process. If they took the 777s, you'd have to a...
Jump to postThere was a comment on Austbt that caught my attention. While this probably is no more than a rumour at this stage but QF management are in discussions with Airbus about converting the 8 388's not taken up into A359ULR's. Jump to postI agree. Based on what has been said to date, QF will not need EDTO>180 for the 789 till they start MEL-DFW, . How long such an application might take? I Know this probably should not considered a guide, but NZ needed 5 months to get AKL-EZE approval.

Jump to postOn YVR-AKL the 789 is good for ~42t payload. PVG has some pretty heavy freight days. Except for these days the 78X would work just fine into Asia. Jump to postThe 789 is a fine aircraft. Within its payload/range limitations it seems to be doing really well for its operators.
