If industry is causing global warming, then I'd say "yes and no", because while <acronym title="Challenge Air Cargo (USA) and Rheintalflug (Austria)">WE</acronym>'VE gotten much cleaner, far more of the planet is driving and producing than compared to 100 years ago. Jump to postOne thing that's ironic is that Bush's Crawford Ranch home is a model of environmental efficiency, compared to Al Gore's home, which is a model of indulgence at the expense of the environment. House 1: The four-bedroom home was planned so that "every room has a relationship with something in the lan...
Jump to postNo pun intended, but I know this is a hot topic. It seems to me that it has become more of a religion than sound science. Skeptics of the man-caused, CO2 sourced global warming are shouted down as quickly as I would have suspected "flat earth" critics were shouted down back in the day. This type of ...
Jump to postBecause they dont really know anything about the C-5, thats why. They don't know about the operations, engineering or technology that went into the C-5's development. Its that simple.
Jump to post"Then even if he did exist; in this day and age who would believe he's nothing more then a Jewish carpenter?"
There is plenty of evidence to suggest the existance of Jesus, now was he the son of god and the messiah, thats when faith comes into play. But Jesus the man did exist.
thanx dude, thats it. im building up my song list before i deploy to th sand box.
Jump to postRemeber a song from the eighties about standing in a telephone booth with a beer bottle in the rain, what was the group?
Jump to postHow far are you gonna kneel a 747 before the engines hit the ground?
Jump to postI recently got some more pics but dont have the capability to post them. They are pretty good upclose and can help explain a bit more.
Jump to postAMP is the new glass cockpit modification, Aircraft Modernization Program. The aircraft that crashed had the modification, and of course it may have been a contributing factor in the accident.
Jump to postWhy? what do you want to know? they are still flying out of dover?
Jump to postWell from what ive heard #2 had an TR indication either a pressure light or not locked light. The crew then shut it down. But there was no indication of real mechanical failure. Thats the info so far.
Jump to postAlso, there is no mechanical indication that the TRs opened on any engine. Also this was one of the Amp birds as well, and the amp'd aircraft are now restricted from flight, there may be some training issues as well.
Jump to postWell, i went out and viewed the wreckage today, didn't get to up and close to it since it is cordonned off. But you can see quite a bit from the fence line. Anyhow, talking to a lot of guys i know in the squadron, its sounding like the crew shut down number 2 for a <acronym title="Transbrasil SA Lin...
Jump to postSome more news, a few of the crew do have some bad injuries, like crushed pelvis and back/neck injuries, but not life threatening. Also preliminaries sound like they had a <acronym title="Transbrasil SA Linhas Aereas">TR</acronym> malf indication and shut down the #1 engine, but nothing else strange...
Jump to postWell, i just got news of this, i am in japan right now on a mission but made a call and got some info, it was a reserve crew out of dover, they had engine issues and tried to come back for landing, but couldn't make it. Anyway no one is severly injured and some are already out of the hospital. Thank...
Jump to postGalaxy5007 pretty much answered all the questions, He is right about the hydraulics, pnuematics (bleed ducts and such) and avionics, but as stated its due to lack of funding, and lack of funding can cripple any airframe as i am currently finding out since i switched to the <acronym title="Carpatian ...
Jump to postIn a word "no" winglets are not in the future, The C-5 wings have already been modified that was done in the 80"s when the B models were delivered, all the A's had the wings replaced. As of now the wings are not designed for winglets and the benefits of winglets would be negligible for the C-5 wing.
Jump to postGovernor Nagin was asked how he stood on the subject of Roe Vs Wade.
His reply was "I dont care how people get out of the flood waters in New Orleans"
well, from what ive heard, the AMP'ed C-5M wont retire till about 2045 or 2050.
Jump to postActually very little structural changes have to be made on the wings, since all the wings are fairly new and have the structural capability of enabling the aircraft to take off at 1,000,000 lbs. The engine pylon had to be changed and some modification to the fwd wing structure for plumbing and such ...
Jump to postThanx for posting them so quickly, Well from what ive heard the first flight will be in April 2006.
Jump to postok SATL i e-mailed you the pics, you can post them anytime.
Jump to postWell i finally got pics of the new C-5m with the CF-6 engines, however i cant get them to post on here, if someone wants i can e-mail them to them and they can place them here under this post. Looks pretty sweet.
Jump to postUm, who cares if you offend a bunch of terrorists.
Jump to postLol, Yeah altus really is the A-hole of AETC, But, soon all the C-5 training will be done at Kelly Annex (lackland). San Antonio, which is pretty sweet.
Jump to posthello, im was a C-5 <acronym title="Royal Khmer Airlines (Cambodia)">FE</acronym> for about 10 yrs and am currently swaping to the <acronym title="Carpatian Air Transport (Hungary)">KC</acronym>-10A ( which BTW isn't any more reliable than the C-5s i left, so far im 2 for 2 on the flights and have s...
Jump to postwell, i really can't think of a reason why we couldn't do transition work at willow grove, perhaps the navy or local area doesn't want or can't handle the additional airtraffic.
Jump to posti would contribute the event to more of high operations tempo, i bet some crew fatigue and the lower and lower experience of flight crews with ever expending demands on all airframes. Its just a matter of time till there is another class A or loss of an airframe.
Jump to postyeah, the navy loading equipment really has alot to be desired, maybe the Airforce could give them a couple tunners.
Jump to postWell, Dover C-5's rarely do Touch and go's at willow grove. Heck after 10 years of flying locals and such i don't ever recall going there for transitions. I have done Mcguire and atlantic city though.
Jump to postWOw that C-5 geasr pick must be one of the original gear or something, if you look at the truck assembly, its straight pieced and joined to a 90 angle for the aft portion, on all the C-5's ive flown the assembly is a single piece with a 90 deg elbow. BTW the Kneeling system works pretty well, i have...
Jump to posthow long until they start retiring the Kc-10s?
Jump to posthey were either of you guys the one who came upstairs in the c-5 cockpit and took all those pictures, you remeber the little kid we tried to keep out of the way so you could get some clean pics, LOL. That kid wouldn't go away.
Jump to postyou mean the black door on the left side? the one that is usually a cargo door on cargo versions? it looked like it was closed. They really wouldn't let anyone further up inside the plane to see much of anything, they just had a video playing there in the back.
Jump to postyeah, i was there with the C-5, friday really blew though, all the rain and wind. The MDA dc-10 was cool.

Jump to postBTW, has anyone heard anything about the follow-on order. Last i heard, the C-17 probably won't see the 200+ that boeing/Handy want, funding has only provided for the 185+- airframes and its looking like that gonna be about it.
Jump to postYeha the 135r's are cool, those engines just look so far out of place.
you know what satl, you sound like a bitter dried up old angry retiree. The reason some of us that actually operate and fly the C-5 come here is to give some of our experience and knowledge to those of here that are interested in knowing some things about these airframes, it seems the only reason yo...

Jump to postbetter bet use to digital dial readouts, with the amp progressing. A shame i like the tape type gauges myself, easy to see if something isn't working the same.
Jump to postYeah the maxc take of weight normal day to day for the C-5 is 769,000lbs and you can land at 769,000lbs. Now war take-off is 840,000lbs and the plane can be landed at the same weight, you just have to arrest the sink rate. Now as for growing pains of the C-5 you must remember when it was developed t...
Jump to postyeah ive been on plenty of C-17's and i have never seen any powered rollers. BTW i was on one of the heaviest C-5 air drops, it was pretty cool, one pallet train was about 90,000 lbs. It was pretty neat. Its cool how the rollers smoke after the rapid extraction of the cargo.
