The tower controller cleared DAL873 for takeoff on 27R at 10:33 local time. A few seconds later, he cleared another aircraft to cross the same runway. DAL873 was instructed to abort the takeoff upon realization of the error.

The problem was noticed by the pilot while in the vicinity of INT. He was at FL280 and had asked for an immediate descent to FL180. ATC could only initially clear him to FL250 because of traffic.
