The entire aft tailcone was redesigned. The -NG uses an eductor to let ambient air into the APU compartment. That air is then pulled through the oil cooler from suction of the exhaust. The MAX eliminated the eductor design, so a new inlet had to be created that diverts air for the actual APU inlet a...Jump to post
Commonality between fleet types is a big factor. Consider A320 family operators that have the CFM56-5B engines, and started to operate NEO A320 fam aircraft. The LEAP-1A would be a clear choice over the P&W GTF, as that customer already has experience and service history with Safran/GE. It certa...Jump to post

Is anyone familiar with the 737 Classic flight deck? After they slam down, two red lights at the center above where the EICAS would be light up. What does that mean and is it normal? Those are the "REVERSER UNLOCKED" lights, they illuminate to let the crew know the reversers are unlocked,...Jump to post

Airlines often have contracts with logistics companies that figure out the ground handling portion. I know of a large operator that uses Spire for diversions. https://www.spireflight.com/en. They handle logistics of hard stands, fueling, towing, etc for airports that aren't served by that operator.Jump to post
How much weight does this survey have? It's really about advertising power - I nor others that I know (friends or family) have ever purchased products/services because of JD Power Award influence. As an AS employee, congrats to DL! They have made it their priority to win it from AS for years now. I...Jump to post

I don't think anyone will paint an actual aircraft with a test livery. There have been plenty. Fair play. Any examples? AS had 2 or 3 aircraft with a modified livery, mainly on the winglets before the current livery refresh. https://www.airliners.net/photo/Alaska-Airlines/Boeing-737-990-ER/2835088/...Jump to post
I wonder if this surgery was unscheduled? Like something that needed to be done right now and he was the one on call to perform it? The pilots did a good job keeping it on center line. It's also interesting to see that the wheel isn't completely destroyed, only the tire. Probably had a much lower landing weight than the JetBlue incident. That's not to say that the wheel doesn't need to be replaced, though.Jump to post

I'm going to venture you're talking about the GTF. You can hear the grinding/growling noise at lower power settings. In Seattle, I can hear it and know instantly it's a DL A220 joining the LOC with the engines spooling from idle.
I'm curious what it is, too. Perhaps it's the gearbox?
I have some pics but I'm not sure if they're as detailed or close-up as you'd like. Same thing as Jetblueguy22. My CFI had me put my head down under the hood and maneuvered the plane around. After a while he asked "what's our attitude?" I replied "steep turn". We were straight and level. WOW. Mind blown at that point, and from then on I've never questioned how s...Jump to post
It's obviously not a good time in aviation right now, but when things pick up again don't rule out working for an airline.
