Both Dover and McGuire were huge transport bases during the Vietnam war (along with PHL). At McGuire, I remember all the charter operators going in and out of there like ONA, Universal, Saturn, World, TIA, Capitol, etc...I guess I wonder why these bases were not used vs commercial airports for this ...

Freight has a lot to also do with it. QR has become a big player in the air freight industry even prior to COVID. Even when pax loads maybe light on the main deck, their bellies are rather full.

Flew them a lot in the late 60s between PHL-ROC. Like other city pairs, it replaced DC-6Bs and Viscounts that previously operated the route.

Back in the 70s, there was an airline flying Twin Otters on floats between Wall Street - Philadelphia downtown and Washington, D.C. call S.S.T. (Seaplane Shuttle Transport). It would be interesting to see if they connect these same dots again.
