Way back, Southern Airlines flew into Eglin AFB. As mentioned above, it is now VPS, but in the old days, not sure if it worked how it does now as a joint use airport.

Since we are talking about these large Canadian "hybrids", we should not forget the RCAF CP-107 "Argus" which was essentially a shortened Britannia with the Bristol Proteus engines replaced by piston Wright 3350 Duplex Cyclone engines (found on the DC-7) and DC-7 style cockpit!

Looks like November 8th is the official day travel ban will be lifted to US. Just missed it by 3 days! All is well, rebooked on Delta ! the VS rep said all flights to MCO will resume that day and BA will too...

UPDATE: after 2 hours and 20 minutes on hold with Virgin they are refunding me 100% and provided an email with confirmation. Said they plan to start service November 8th 3 days later!

Going to book Delta and pay $300 more per ticket...

Both Dover and McGuire were huge transport bases during the Vietnam war (along with PHL). At McGuire, I remember all the charter operators going in and out of there like ONA, Universal, Saturn, World, TIA, Capitol, etc...I guess I wonder why these bases were not used vs commercial airports for this ...

Freight has a lot to also do with it. QR has become a big player in the air freight industry even prior to COVID. Even when pax loads maybe light on the main deck, their bellies are rather full.
