Re: New Orleans Aviation Thread - 2019

Just received confirmation that the opening of the terminal is now officially delayed until August 7th. Haven’t gotten an official reason yet but I can’t say that I’m surprised. Could it just be that it's simply not finished? The pictures that were released a few weeks ago were telling. While it lo...

Re: New Orleans Aviation Thread - 2019

Sorta figured they'd at least go 6xWk though, as DE has consistently proven that people do want to fly out/into Europe on Sundays (and DE aircraft are even higher capacity than BA's).... though guess the yield just isn't there to interest them, if upgauging-first is the route that they go. Totally ...

Re: Airports where pax had to use stairs to board 747, DC-10, L-1011

At MSY, DL used the old Concourse D. I know in 1974, the end of D was expanded to accommodate widebody aircraft. I believe the old jetways on the original part of D (built in 1959) could still handle the L10, but would restrict usage of adjacent gates. That entire concourse was torn down about 20 ye...

Re: The MSY Thread - 2018

I know it's a practically impossible concept for NOLA natives to comprehend, and understandably so... but people who are not from S.Louisiana can and do get tired of NOLA/Southern food. Cray, but it's totally a thing. And considering that an overwhelming skew of such folk are going to be accumulate...

Re: The MSY thread - 2018

I agree. I'm even skeptical of two 787s on that route to begin with. The 777 on that route didn't work, so how are two 787s even going to work? This is precisely why I hope DY stays away from MSY for now. I know that might sound counter-intuitive for an MSY enthusiast, since growth is almost always...

Re: The MSY thread - 2018

So I've been wondering about that AUS flight. I know people who have taken it and they rarely say it's full. With DY in the mix now, I seriously have no clue how they are going to fill a 744 on BA and 787 on DY. I’m sure they’ll right size it back to a 789 in no time. Nothing bigger than that is ne...

Re: Could Southwest fly to Europe?

If WN ever decides to fly to Europe, I think BWI would be an excellent jumping off point. There's a large O&D base since they'll pull from the DC metro, and connecting opportunities from over 50 cities. It would also offer an alternative to all the IAD haters. That said, the 737 (any variant) i...

Re: The MSY thread - 2018

Thanks, when I lived in NOLA, I remember seeing USAirways A320s and A319s at that concourse. Wasn't CO in B where SWA is? CO bounced around to different gates on B during the 90s but settled at the end of B for several years prior to the UA merger. I think they had 3 or maybe 4 gates on B. After CO...

Why did they shut down this concourse, I believe it was A. I thought MSY was having a gate shortage. https://www.google.com/maps/@29.9838031,-90.2540415,200m/data=!3m1!1e3 A terminal is not feasible for many reasonse... it had like 3-4 gates and was atrocious to fly out of post 9/11.. there were no...

Re: The MSY thread - 2018

We also received confirmation from our management a couple months ago that we would be getting a UA Club in the new terminal, ground level in concourse A. I’m surprised that the master plan hasn’t been updated to reflect this. We had people in from Willis meeting with the airport and we’ve been tol...

Re: USA Today: West Virginia is the ultimate fly-over state

There's something wrong with the Virginia numbers in this study. Yes they acknowledge that while it's the state with the most flyovers, it ranks 7th due to the busy suburban DC airports. Yet, they clearly didn't include IAD/DCA in the "flights to" number. There is no way Maryland has 99,03...

Re: United's future at Dulles

Also, I don't like to compare DC to NYC. I know they each have three airports but NYC is three times as large than DC/Baltimore combined so the pool of available passengers is quite different. While your point is taken, it's a little exaggerated. NYC/NJ combined MSA = 20,153,634. Balt/Wash combined...

Re: The MSY Thread - 2017

I'm still struggling to see how this international terminal is going to look. The plans are a bit deceiving showing planes lined up parallel to main terminal building but does not show a concourse out to them? I guess we will just have to wait and see? I believe the ramp area behind concourse A is ...

Crew Scheduling on Less Than Daily Routes

The recent Condor announcement to serve FRA-MSY/SAN on a 2 and 3 weekly flight schedule respectively, has me curious about how they schedule flight crews on these types of routes. For example, say a crew flies the inbound FRA-MSY on a Wednesday arriving in the late afternoon (about an 11 hour flight...

RE: Will People Agree To Board A Windowless Airlin

Aside from the claustrophobia issue, and taking most of the pleasure out of flying by denying passengers the ability to experience areal views during flight, I also think it's a safety issue. In an emergency, passengers need to have situational awareness of what's going on outside of the plane, such...

RE: MSY: New $826 Million Terminal Project

Looking at the satellie view it's hard to imagine that terminal complex fitting on the north side of the field. I wonder if it would be feasible to buy out the property along 24th St. where all those warehouses are in the northeast portion of the field. That would allow for expansion of parking, hot...

This is definitely not the interim terminal. All the boarding bridges connected from the upper level. I believe this is the old North concourse that was demolished in the early/mid '90s to make room for the new terminal.
