Won't this increase the fuel burn, too? Normally the fuel weight in the tail is used to avoid the use of much "nose up" trim in the early part of flight, which would otherwise produce drag.

Even the ultra high density layout used for the evacuation test (853pax) was 3-4-3, so i do not see any chance that there will be 3-5-3 somewhere in airline service.

Actually, an A380-700 was also planned as a gap-filler between the A340-600 and A380-800 and direct replacement of 747-400s.

But that plane is not going to happen anymore, the A350-1000 should have much better economics and offers almost the same size...

The problem was the long time the engines needed to spool up. Had nothing to do with FBW, exect that alpha floor protection kicked in and saved the aircraft from a stall killing everyone one board.
