Re: Kentucky Aviation Thread - 2019

WN adds SDF-FLL for 1x week service. New NS destination for WN from SDF Delta tried FLL from LEX back in 2005 with a CRJ200 and it failed quickly; traveled that route 3-4/month and the most I ever saw was 8 of us on that airplane; maybe times have improved or SDF proves to be better. Re: Kentucky Aviation Thread - 2019

During the approach into SDF the crew received a Slat Fault message; since the longer runway 17R/35L was not available and the East runway is considerably shorter (crew indicated that they needed at least 10,000ft runway length), it was finally decided that a diversion to CVG was required...

I flew on an L-1011 FRA-DFW in 1988 with Captain John Steiger in charge, who was piloting the Convair 880 in the below picture. He was kind enough to give my father and myself a tour of the flight deck and encouraged me to follow my dream, which I did...thanks Captain.

In the early 90s we were hours late on a TWA B747 from FRA to JFK, weren't provided with a gate and deplaned via people-movers from a remote stand; not quite stairs but an unusual experience especially since coach class deplaned via the rear exit door.
