Re: Airspace

Antiquated airport layouts with deep alleys don't help. JFK, for example, would benefit from a more modern taxiway and apron layout. What does this mean? Is the problem that the alleys are too narrow and can only allow one airplane in our out at a time? I'm always amazed at DEN, for example, how mu...

Re: Cell phone cuts out when aircraft takeoff overhead?

Probably caused by the radar altimeter. I know that, very close to an airport, planes flying overhead do disturb over-the-air TV signals. It's annoying. Maybe someone who knows more about this stuff can comment on whether the wavelengths of radar and cell phones overlap enough to cause problems. Edi...

Re: Localizer when no room for antenna?

The plate says the localizer is offset from the runway by 1.09 degrees. So the localizer antenna forms all of the lobes just like any other localizer antenna. It’s just not down the centerline of the runway. I looked everywhere and didn't see that. But I see the "LOC offset 1.02°" in the ...

Localizer when no room for antenna?

I'm used to seeing the localizer antenna array off the end of the runway. But I was in Newark the other day and noticed what looked like a localizer array next to runway 11 . This makes sense because there's a lot of NJ Turnpike off the departure end of that runway and I don't see where else you'd p...

I understand that the center of gravity is tricky with the Avanti. Since fuel is stored in the wings and the wings are located so far back, it's harder to balance different fuel loads against payload.
