At the moment everything is possible: OS and LX will get the 787-9s LH gets all LH and LX get 787s Additional orders to replace the groups A330s in the long term. Just a thought: LH has 45 A350 on order and only 20 787s (so far). So it would make more sense to split the A350s within the group rather...

Why would LH want to replace their CRJ-900s? They are very good little jets for thin routes,esp. in the winter and for frequency..They have good range, they're lightweight which means cheaper landing/takeoff fees and the new Atmosphere cabin provided by Bombardier makes for a nice on-board experien...

Not too many carriers in the 500+ airplanes' league seem to "commit to" one singular manufacturer only. I don't disagree with that assessment, but LH Group has no 737s among any of their brands. That's why I made the observation. That's not totally true: Eurowings is currently operating 7...

Well since Boeing is hands to wall with the 737Max and the backlog of the A320NEO is enormous a third model would help to fill the demand. Also it might force Boeing to come up earlier with a modern 737 successor. Indeed, an A220-500 right now would be just perfect in the light of the 737MAX groudi...

My conclusion: LH plans with a 787-9, A350-900, 777-9X longhaul fleet in the future. 747s will be phased out first the -400, the -8I at a later date. A380s will also see early retirement. P.S. Lufthansa on Twitter (German): A350 will primarily replace older 4 engine aircraft in the long haul fleets (in the English version they have left out "fleets")

Great news, we will see who will get the 787s. Hoping for LH getting some but OS is also in dire need to replace the 767s. We will see, I doubt it will stay with only 20 787s for the LH group. It is a perfect fit for LH, OS, LX and EW.

Why does the A333neo not fit into their future plans,considering how well the current A333s have been serving them? The 777X and the A350s can sometimes be too big for some tatl routes where frequency and flexibility are more important.. If they decide to order more A350 to replace the A343 I think...

The biggest question about LH and the LH Group is the future of their A333 replacement. The 77X is replacing their 744s (and likely their A388 and 748s within 10-15 years, assuming no A380neo). Better spend the money on more Crews....the 2nd A340 was available but there were no Crews. Also we are getting an A321 for Government use lets try things out with the things we already have instead of wasting tax payers money.... P.S. The article is not 100 % correcht e.g. the German Air Force has a replacement plan, they will join OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en Matière d’ Armement/Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation) and use A330MRTTs.

With all the investments in 2nd hand 777s at OS I find it odd that many people still claim the perfect plane for Austrian is the A330neo. 787 makes the most sense together with Swiss who operate the 77W.

Profit for LH group is fleet commonality, r. LH already has 77Fs and will get 777-9s. They have already 777 pilots in their fleet and the 777 share a common type rating with the 787. LH has rejected the A330NEO twice. And it is again not short listed in the current tender, so I dare say LH does not...

Well the article says that they have options for 30 A350s - if they would not be interested in the 787 they could have taken these instead of asking both manufacturers for new proposals.
