I've sadly never flown on an MD-11, not many of the mainstream airlines to/from the UK operate with them. I've been lucky enough to fly on Omni's DC-10s and a number of RAF L1011 TriStars. 3 holers just look complete. The demise of the <acronym title="Air Ma...

Unlikely but ask at the gate rather than the check-in desk. If there's free seats they might upgrade you. I've been upgraded at the gate on my last 2 transatlantic UA flights, albeit only from Y to Economy Plus.

A shame to see the F3s go. I remember being wakened in the wee small hours at MPA by either "Faith", "Hope", "Charity" or "Desperation" deploying on an Alpha Scramble. Great aircraft being replaced by an even greater one.

They were operated from KAF (Kandahar) by joint force Harrier, a Naval/Air Force group. COIN CAS missions don't need a lot of weapons in the air, they need the ability to drop one weapon with pinpoint accuracy onto an unbriefed target. A-10 certainly has a much greater weapons load but that is of li...

You really don't need all that expense in a CAS aircraft. How about an updated Harrier?
