This not an FAA issue. There is no requirement for a customer QA inspection in the standards. It is just good practice for the airline. Fiji is largely owned by Qantas. Maybe give Qantas a heads up?

AKL-JFK would open a number of one stop options to JFK - everywhere in New Zealand and places like OOL,ADL,PER, etc that cannot be reached from JFK now accept with 3 sectors

1. 20% higher MTOW on 787-8 verus 767-300ER means higher airport/airways charges. Boeing 757-200 fees are half of a 787-8.
2. 788 is really too long a range a/c for many routes
3. Purchase cost of the 788 is far above say a A321
