Re: LA800 flight SYD-AKL in flight uncontrolled descent

I flew the DC-10 and MD-11 for about 15 years. Those few times the seat was forward for some reason it was not at all a problem to lean forward and down to run it back with the regular inboard side switches so you could sit down. That seat top switch is merely a convenience and it could be deactivat...

Those four critical bolts are removed for both an "opening" or "removal". Both procedures need to be inspected and logged; no difference.

Pretty sure 767s cannot dump fuel, but they can land at takeoff weight. They could have burned off fuel to avoid overweight landing inspections, but only they know.

That 720 as pictured was a revised version of the original, which did not have the white outline around the letters. It was REALLY ugly; outlining made a huge difference against the aluminum.

RE: Why Does FedEx Use 727s?

Think how many packages and letter envelopes FedEx can cram into a 727--thousands! Maybe tens of thousands. A small incremental fuel burn increase matters little to them. What will matter eventually is an ever increasing cost of maintenance, and that's what generally causes older fleets to be retired.

Some chain of events caused an inflight breakup of the 737, and I'll wait for the investigation to prove exactly what.
