Re: Delta saves the day with free charter

Well, good PR for Delta, that’s for sure. And I have to admit, I was impressed without Delta myself a couple of years ago. I was transferring through ATL to get to MIA on an AF flight via CDG to TXL. There were thunderstorms in the area, so our MIA bound flight was delayed and it was obvious we‘d mi...

[The legal framework says, if they start using both runways, TXL would have to close in 6 months (and everybody would be screwed). How and why did they think this was a good idea? Wow... Then just declare "maintenance" on the closed/blocked one and get along. Shutting down an entire airport when it has an available, free, unblocked, ready to use, at hand, capable (i'm out of expresions) runway is just nuts! TBH, Berlin is totally nuts (trust me, I live here), so pl...

I'm a bit confused though: Isn't the second BER runway already operational? Why not use that? They can‘t. The legal framework says, if they start using both runways, TXL would have to close in 6 months (and everybody would be screwed). An exception was, when one runway was undergoing maintenance. T...

Re: 1985 Pan Am LHR-LAX-SYD 747 & 747SP - a (former) kid's memories

Thanks so much for sharing. My only flights on Pan Am were in 1989 and 1990 (HAM-(LHR)-JFK-MIA, and back, in 1990 one was MIA-LGA with a transfer to JFK), and as I was only 9 and 10 back then, I remember many little details (and collected a timetable I still have), but not clear, comprehensive story...

Lastly, I will say IMHO, Americans can be a lot harder on their own airlines and aren't as loyal to their flag carriers. I don't think the same holds true for people in other countries. I think there is more nationalistic pride about their country's "flag carriers". I don’t know about tha...

I flew them twice in spring of 1996. PDX-PHX-ELP and same route back on 737-200s. From what I remember, it was average. Nothing to complain about, but also nothing to remember.

Hmm, from my experience, they usually even invite you to use your own headphones, mostly when they provide headphones free of charge or sell them at a nominal charge to be kept for future travel. As said, sometimes a single 3.5mm jack doesn't work, though.
