Then again, most Southwest Floridians heading to the keys will probably just take the Key West Express - IIRC, it's a fun 3 hour boat ride with plenty of seating, a bar, a lot more comfortable th...

Re: BWI Relocation of Runway 15L 1980s?

^ From the airport in the late 80’s. Cool, looking at a lot of the old photos of BWI from historic aerials.com BWI appears to have more wide body traffic in the 1970s through the early 1990s than they do now. Most U.S. airports had more widebody traffic in those days. Until around 1980, only PA, TW...

CLE had nonstop service to Montreal at one time, initially by Air Canada, and later by Continental.

And by USAir as well if we go way back to the 1980s!

FNT-BWI had atrocious load factors from what I remember. FNT - anything east has always been terrible. South and west to sun / beach markets direct or connecting flows work. East, not so much. What airline used to have a hub at DAY? The original Piedmont Airlines developed a hub in DAY in the early 80s and then became a US Air hub when they merged in 1989. It transitioned to a focus city in the 90s and then dismantled....maybe in the late 90s/early 2000s? I'm not sure exactly when that h...

Got to tour a Comair CRJ in 1994 during an internship with the Cleveland airport, the agent took us out to visit the aircraft as it was doing a CVG-CLE-CVG turn. It's huge drop from all the EWR, ORD, IAD, IAH and DEN flights from this past season and even compared with last summer. Staffing has been a huge issue a...

One can't forget that UA DC-10 diversion to DCA. Originally scheduled ORD-BWI, Baltimore had severe t-storms/low ceilings. Attempts to divert to IAD and ADW were aborted due again to poor weather; diminishing fuel reserves led the flight to land at DCA. https://www.flickr.com/photos/keleivis/427137...

I would speculate that all the housing construction going on in the SRQ area combined with plenty of room at SRQ is helping to fuel this expansion. They also, as do other airlines, try to honor a locally-significant number for particular flights. For instance, Delta is one of several airlines at IND that has a flight 500 (IND-CDG) to honor the Indy 500. I believe AS (IND-SEA) UA (IND-SFO) and AA (IND-PHX) also do the same. We have a couple 317...

Technically, UA is actually resuming SFO-DTW. UA flew the route nonstop from the mid 1960s to 1985. I think UA also flew the route nonstop for a couple of years in the late 1980s, too. In the 1970s, it wasn't uncommon for UA to have 2x DC-10s a day on the route, largely because the GM assembly plan...
