Many of them are not completely deserted, but still have very low traffic and far too many of them are build close to each other. Basel-Mulhouse got some Qatar Cargo B777s, which usually would not be seen around here. They will turn regulars by the end of May though, as all four regular weekly flights will get switched from A330F to B777F.

I think politics played their part in Zweibrücken also. The fact that ZQW is in a different state than Saarbrücken and obviously Luxembourg meant that money from a different source was available there, so they gave it a go. And failed ... At least Beja has a lot of military traffic from the Portuguese Air Force. It is nowhere near as much a commercial failure as any of the other airports mentioned here. This does not mean that there have not been attempts to fly commercially in and out of Beja.

Basel-Paris CDG

That's an interesting development and much more reflects the necessities than the old agreement, where flying from/to games was very much limited.

Meanwhile in Europe, PSG is currently in the air, flying from Paris LBG to Dortmund with Boeing 737-500 LY-KDT.

Schalke 04 could just be seen arriving back from their away game in the Bundesliga at Bayern München, ironically a game they had lost by 0-4. They used Dornier 328 D-CMHA of MHS Aviation for a flight from Munich to Cologne.
