With the distances involved in Mexico City, a mega airport would require a long journey for a large percentage of the population. Too me actually seems whatever Mexico City does its a bad choice for new airport location. Why not instead look to expand fields like Toluca and Puebla? I dont see need for a mega airport, when the city can be serviced by multiple smaller fields located in different directions. Planes struggle with...

I flew with my family many times from MEX to LAS via IAH or DFW as most of the times it was cheaper than the direct flight to LAS.

And in 2013 I also flew to Milan Linate from Múnich via Dusseldorf with Air Berlin.

I only flew once on a L1011 and DC10, never on the MD11, routes as follows:

L1011 back in 1989 from ATL to MCO on Delta
DC10 back in 2000 IIRC from IAH to LAX on Continental

I heard that the inaugural was postponed until July 3rd due to traffic rights issues, but perhaps it's been resolved? Runway 11/29 has an ILS, may have been inoperative that day.


MTY only has ILS on runway 29, to land on runway 11 there is only VOR DME 1 and VOR DME 2 approach.

I absolutely hate afternoon/early evening departures for NA to EU. I love afternoon departures from the U.S. to Europe. Leave at 4 pm, travel for 7 hours (no need for sleep) and arrive at 6 am. Better to skip a night than leave at 10 pm and fly through the night. A flight that doesn't appeal to me ...
