Looks like Boeing has the lead in the new ULCC fleet order: How did you come to this conclusion? The article merely states that Boeing may have a chance. Nowhere has it been mentioned that the new airline is gearing towards Boeing for plane orders. So Boeing does not have any lead, at least not yet.

The smooth merger with NW, rebranding, Richard Anderson's leadership, focus on customer service, improving in-flight products (hard and soft), operational reliability. All these factors played a part in getting DL to where it is today.
