All current airliners are all low winged, twin engined, conventional tailed monoplanes with engines under the wings for a reason. That is structurally and aerodynamically the most efficient layout, at lest for a tube with wings. A BWB would undoubtedly be more efficient, but that is the only concep...Jump to post
It's depressing but also...what is the alternative? We were there for 20 years, after going in with *zero* plan for nation building once we toppled the Taliban the first time. Makes you re-think about our foreign strategies and policies. What did we learn here? What did our soldiers die for, what a...Jump to post
Well yeah if what the Trump org has done is any indication his tax filings might show him as almost bankrupt, on purpose !
Although he might well be that in practice, too.
One can argue the exact same thing of LH, given Mercedes-Benz's constant whining. Red Bull introduced the flexwing that makes their cars more aerodynamic on the straight? Mercedes-Benz whines to the FIA. Red Bull managed to perfect a quick pitstop, Mercedes-Benz whines to the FIA. Both times the FI...Jump to post
Red Bull's constant whining while MV's supporters brand LH the whiner makes me laugh and goes some way to make Max unlikeable (he's not there just yet). Easy out there for the stewarts, no new evidence, case closed. Lots of rumours that Red Bull’s main new evidence is GPS data which shows that Hamilton was never as fast through Copse on any other lap in the race. However, I’m really struggling to grasp how the stewards can consider “the future” whe...Jump to post
The law is 100 pages long : https://www.assemblee-nationale.fr/dyn/15/textes/l15b3875_projet-loi.pdf And there will probably be 10000 pages of decrees on top. Banning short flights is like half a page, there are plenty of other measures (some of them also targeting aviation, for example expanding ai...Jump to post
Red Bull want the penalty increased but will need to present new evidence which was not available at the time of the original inquiry for seven-time world champion Hamilton to be sanctioned further. So sad to hear. It's just my opinion but it seems the FAA doesn't care about safety unless it's the airlines. While airline flying has gotten significantly safer over the decades, general aviation has not. Way too many accidents occurring. Why don't they address this? General aviation is a very bro...Jump to post

In France we just have transitioned to a similar way to pay income tax (through the paycheck) when before we paid manually and a year later, so we have now potential refunds, and tax credits that are credited in advance, more helpful that getting them a year later. One very big tax credit is when yo...Jump to post
Of course this is bunk by the French. But it brings out the doomsdayers that almost relish the hysterics, while needlessly trashing an industry we purportedly love. And while the science is "settled", the solutions are not. There are a whole host of economists and experts that argue targe...Jump to post
Yeah in the US he would be called a communist considering his economic positions.
Using "pro-choice" slogans is definitely something coming from the US though, since here there is virtually no debate about abortion, it is easy to get, and free, since the 70's.
In France with the rise of vaccinations following the imposition of a "sanitary passport", there were fears we would run out of vaccines, however Moderna will cover the shortfall. I wonder how the UK will vaccinate the young since they don't have enough Pfizer and don't seem to have ordere...Jump to post

I watch only F1, which can be boring, but at least the cars are moving most of the time. I can watch football (soccer) from time to time, same, it's moving most of the time. Rugby, american football, baseball, cricket, where play is stopped most of the time, I can't watch.Jump to post

One has to also consider, that maintaining a young fleet requires a quick turnaround of aircrafts. This implies heavy manufacturing and scrapping pollutions that might be more polluting than this 34% CO2 emissions. This! When you look at the lifecycle of equipment. Raw Materials to Manufacturing an...Jump to post
This however, for me is Wally Funk's day, if it is the case that Bezos is stepping back from Amazon to devote more time to Blue Origin, this flight will likely make him even more focused. Not to give Bezos much credit, but the Wally Funk point and the “crew” selection by BO was definitely a much be...Jump to post

Hamilton is some of the most dangerous drivers on the grid if you are ahead of him in a Red Bull... ALB x2 and now VER Maybe he should stop being a F1 race driver, and just be given the keys of the safety car. So many people call him the greatest of all times. He might have the titles, but I am not...Jump to post
I agree that the engine nacelles look massive.
Unlike the charging cable, which looks like what an electric car uses, meaning it can't draw that much power. Max for cars is 350kW, over that you need a bigger cable, and maybe active cooling on the cable.
Not having enough trust to climb at MTOW on one engine is one thing, but not enough trust to maintain altitude with a plane that should be below MTOW is another, no ?Jump to post

About how to call someone, my country hasn't caught up with that yet, and since I'm rather conservative regarding the French language, there will definitely be issues with all the variations. 6 weeks earlier would have been possible. Politicians suspected they had the power but maybe not to that extent. And there will also be a backlash (protests across France today). I heard on the radio the other day that technical skills lose value after 18 months. The advantage of a diploma isn't necessarily what you learn, but the fact it proves you can learn. There can't be a big battery as that would hurt fuel economy.
My guess is a turbine tailored for cruise, coupled to an electric engine that adds power for take-off. During descent the electric engine in regen mode can recharge the battery.
