Re: World Cup 2022 Football Thread

Billions of people have grown up playing at least a bit of football, that's the answer. You just need a ball (can be a plastic 1$ ball) and some flat place and you're good to play. Dirt poor African kids play in dirt, without shoes. It's difficult to score, which is what makes each goal exciting. Wh...

Well we learned a couple of things from the opening match. First is that the Qatari team is an absolute joke; not a single shot or corner kick after 95 minutes of playing. They have a goal keeper who shouldn’t be let anywhere near a football pitch, and it's all backed by supporters who left in drov...

I don't know. I also find it interesting these stories were published in US newspapers accusing France, when it's the US that enforced a lot of these payments (after 1888), including by invading the country, stealing their gold, etc. I'm all for paying 21 billions to settle that debt if it's deemed ...

Even if you're a true Brexiteer that still think it's a good idea for the country (not just for your pockets) the original sin was the referendum itself, not done properly, and with a simple majority threshold. Any result in the 45-55 to 49-51 range was always going to be problematic.

Like clockwork. Hunt: “we will stay outside the EU but remove trade barriers.” Brexiteers: “oh $h1t, we’re going for the Swiss model. That’s unacceptable!” For Brexiteers like JRM, trade barriers are now emblematic of a “correct” Brexit. “Unfettered” trade is a bad thing. “The UK could be headed fo...
