Re: United Fleet Upgrade Status - 2018

I seriously hope they do get at least 4 more. Me thinks that other hubs should see some. Does anyone think that the 77W will show up on the LAX/SFO SYD routes? With a true Polaris seats and real W cabin United could seriously improve their Australian reputation! Not until the FA's merge, the servic...

Re: UA 767's and transpac

UA did operate a 763 LHR - DEL - HKG and vv in the late 1990's as part of their RTW service, though technically not a Trans-Pacific flight. and well before the merger with CO UA did try to compete with Northwest and was flying 767s from NRT to SPN and GUM. I do not recall if they flew from NRT to a...

Re: United Fleet Upgrade Status - 2018

I just saw a vintage United ad on Pinterest. It was for a new service called a Red Carpet 727. Sounded like Midwest: big comfortable seats nose to tail, an all Premium 727. What happened with that experiment? The ad mentioned “worth paying for” over regular economy! I wonder where she flew? There i...

Re: World's best airports for 2018 named by Skytrax

Little to argue about, really, as a number of them make sense. Those arguing otherwise - "usual BS from Skytrax" - are probably used to Little Rock Airport. No. Actually not. With all respect, there is no way Seoul should be #2 and London and Frankfurt shouldn't even be on the list. I sai...

Re: Why Does UA Struggle With Polaris Lounge Roll Outs?

As a United Club member and also Platinum American Express cardholder with access to the Centurion Lounges, I have to say that many times in San Francisco, I prefer the UC due to severe overcrowding at the SF Centurion. Luckily my entrance to the Centurion in IAH, DFW, and MIA have been during slow ...

Re: Why do passengers board the aircraft from the left side?

So, I found with some maritime googling the whole story or port/starboard: https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/port-starboard.html From there a direct quote (for easier reading): "In the early days of boating, before ships had rudders on their centerlines, boats were controlled using a steerin...

Re: United Summer 2018 Widebody Int'l Scheduling

It has less content than much of the fleet with newer IFE (77W, 757PS, 767) and does not have early window content that the in seat entertainment has. My last two flights on the 777HD, PDE was inoperable. And there are issues with Android depending on the fleet type. The same here. My device works ...

Re: United Summer 2018 Widebody Int'l Scheduling

Omg. No seatback IFE. Get real people. The streaming IFE is much better anyways. It features much more (better) content. Re: United Fleet Upgrade Status - 2017

CALTECH, Are you 100% sure about those two A320s coming from China Southern? I haven’t seen any news about this through either UA Inflight or AFA. So far, we’ve been told to expect only A319 “Cs” to slowly come onto the line. Also, the “20S” is already used to designate our current A320s. If these ...

Re: United's old DC-8 fleet questions

I would love to see drawings or pics of the multiple galleys that airlines had in their DC-8-61/63... UA had lots of galley units in their -61s. Did they have carts or was everything carried in cannisters and served by hand? The DC-8-71 (United version, the JAL version was a bit different) had 3 ga...

The "merger of equals" was announced in May, 2010.
