Around 2000, I was waiting at the TWA terminal at LAX, and I was looking out the window down at where the plane was parked. I noticed they had stopping points painted on the ground below with the aircraft type next...Jump to post
Actually I like the look of their liveries, and it does remind me of how airline liveries look in the 60-70's. I think thats a good thing, as jet travel was seen as luxurious then. I flew on China Eastern about two years ago, and their service wasnt too bad- good food, and the inside of the plane lo...Jump to post
yea, AA to me has always sucked. I flew them when they gave out meals and they were terrible- bag o crap. I avoided that problem by flying TWA. good food great service, now that is a true legacy airline...well that option is gone now. Stupid <acrony...Jump to post
I once boarded an China Eastern MD-11, and I noticed as I entered from the jetway, that there once was a sticker or decal that said "McDonnell-Douglas MD-11" and below that, the corporate logo. It was applied so it c...Jump to post
oh sorry, let me clarify...I meant, could they interchange seats, walls, partitions from an aircraft with a 70's decor with a plane from the 80's? Basically does the interior have to belong to a specific plane (I know everything is interchangable) or do they have to remain with the exact plane, like...Jump to post
Do the patterns of each seat ever get mixed up? I notice most of the more vintage aircrafts have most of their original interiors intact. I thought most of the fittings were interchangable...so if an airline is large and have fleets from different era's, are the mechanics specified to keep seat grou...Jump to post
Type-rated: =) so I guess the consensus amoung the majority is that they agree what was once a high class resturant has now become a mcdonalds. sure, you get low fares... but I think allowing and agreeing that airlines become the mcdonalds in the sky is demeaning to everyone, from the passengers- fl...Jump to post
I dunno if its demeaning...but I would certainly be unhappy if I went to a nice resturant and was told to pick up my dinner in a bag on my way in. I think he means its just another way the airlines are sucking away what little left of glamour that still exists in airtravel.Jump to post
its just like the issue for overweight people, if you need space for your legs- pay for it! upgrade to premium. If you don't have the money...too bad. Do you go to a car dealer and complain that the economy cars are too small for you, and because you don't have money to pay, you should get a bigger ...Jump to post
gee Airbus3801, now you tell us it was 20 years ago! Then shouldn't the title of your post be "CAAC horrorstories"? hehe...I think I will post the next one as "KLM horror stories", here goes: I have a friend who flew KLM, and they patched the wings of the plane with cloth!! also there were exposed s...Jump to post
that is total bullshit...I have flown China Southern many times while in China on their domestic routes for the last 3 years, and they are very professional- in fact the inflight service was better than I have experienced on a US domestic airline. I have never even a folding chair on board (yea, the...Jump to post
Is it the same as the closets on the 767? (early models) I was examined one on a twa flight..it looks like a regular closet except the doors pull upward, and when the door goes up, the rack that the coat hangers are come down. When the closet door is closed the rack retracts into the celing- its sup...Jump to post
the last time I was terminal 3 was picking up my gf, that was back in 2000. She took twa, and at that time I was snooping behind an empty twa counter and I found a bunch of really old style twa ticket jackets..wow. I didn't take any, and I put them back =( I noticed all their stuff, like the compute...Jump to post
I would only be concerned if I were flying the DC-10...
I wish I could fly in the early Tristars with 8 across seating, and the center partition...
Pelican, I agree with you- if someone's knees are in the way, I will make sure I don't hit them. But to stop me from totally reclining is infuriating. I think the airlines need to provide more room, because the amount of room they give now in economy is borderline ridiculous...Jump to post
u know, for such old technolgy they work really well! stereo too =) I know china eastern still uses them on their Md-11's.
I think u can hear a bit of sound comming from the armrests- just no amplified, so you can cheat and lift it up and have audio and don't pay hehe
if someone really needed the room, and asked me politely I will definetly limit my recline or not do so...but the point is that I make the choice as it is my right. Many here has talked about it not being a right and that it doesn't come with the the airfare..true. But it is an amenity that everyone...Jump to post
That really gets me mad, I for one enjoy reclining- that is how I sleep, in fact I paid for a seat the reclines and the extra room that comes with it. If reclining wasn't allowed, then airlines wouldn't have made the seats reclinable in the first place. If someone were to put those things behind my ...Jump to post
I'd rather pay more... and be able to go to the bathroom from a window seat without tripping over 2 other people and stumbling into the aisle. Nwacrew, love your post! btw, how did the buffets work? was there a special table placed out, or was the food placed on the counters in the galley? I know at...Jump to post
I agree...isn't the 737ng pretty much a 707 but with 2 engines? I mean it has kept the 737 nose, and cabin width is exactly the same. (yes I do know that the 737 is so advanced that it is completely different from the 707, but from a non techincal standpoint the form factor seems to be about the sam...Jump to post
Do those 707's still fly with their original interiors? or do you think they recieved refurbished interiors that look modern?
I would be very interesting if the interior had the same equipement around the time they were in service..it would look very vintage.
I liked the last one as well as the second to the last one, from the 80's. I remember when I took them before they merged at LAX, that some of the baggage carts and things had the old logos from then, with a large ...Jump to post
I think the probability is greater that something may be overlooked in an older aircraft as there is maintanence that needs to be done. Also how does Boeing or Airbus know exactly what needs to be replace 30-40 yrs down the line? I think at best it is an estimate of the lifespan of a particular part...Jump to post
thanks Canadi>nBoy! =) hey, do you if movies were still shown with film projectors on ur airline's fleet? If so, how did they change the reels of film. I imagine it must be a tough job if someone had to change it from the celing? L1011Lover, that is really some really great info! btw, how did the in...Jump to post
yeah, I think the lack of overhead bins contribute to the celing spaciousness. I think some models had a partition between the center section seats (when they were a 2-4-2 configuration) and I was told it was a coat closet. Perhaps this center partition tried to make space for the lack of overhead b...Jump to post
thanks for all the info! =) from those pictures, I don't know if its just the angle but the celings look really high, especially since there is more space above those grids in the celing. It must have been quite an experience to ride in one. CF-CPI, yeah I have see those pics! they are really intere...Jump to post
I noticed on pics of TWA's L-1011 that the bulkheads had murals on them, and they seemed to be different in each section of the plane. Does anyone know what the murals depict? (it seems to be a faces of somesort and in one you can see a guy on a horse) was it supposed to be somesort of theme of plac...Jump to post
I wonder if reclining is your seat is really bad etiquette..I mean if the airlines didn't want you to recline, then the seats would have been designed to be fixed upright. Thus I feel its my right to recline whenever I want to (except during meal service) as I've payed for a reclining seat. If some...Jump to post

"If a pilot wanted to commit suicide, he doesn't need a gun to do it."
...but it would make it easier right?
what about a scenario where terrorists claim to have a bomb in the luggage hold, and will detonate it if the firearm is not turned over. so do the pilots call the bluff?
how come no one addressed the issue of suicidal pilots? I mean, with all due respect of pilots as proffesionals- but they are humans beings too. So how if a pilot with a chip on his shoulder decides to turn terrorist by using the readily avalible gun on the other pilot- then he would be free to use ...Jump to post
