Has anyone heard talk of an A350-1000 order? Are the A350-900’s on order having added fuel tanks added? To fly JFK-BOM or ATL-JNB without weight restrictions would be nice. The -1000’s would add additional capacity for HND and ICN flights. Also, is it true that the new pilot contract provides a pay ...
Jump to postI have searched and am trying to find some information on the fate of the former Delta 777 fleet. I read somewhere that Air India had purchased most, if not all of the LR’s. Boes anyone have a complete fleet list and status?
Jump to postI was wondering if anyone had any current information on the Delta 777’s stored at Pinal. Have any been sold? Parted out? Converted to freighters?
Jump to postThere are two all white 757's with Rolls engines parked near a hangar at RIC. There are no "N" numbers on them, just an American flag on the tail. Does anyone know anything about these mysterious planes?
Jump to postFor what it is worth, these are the things I miss about the old format: 1. The "Respected Readers." It gave you a clear idea of who was a responsible user, who was new and who you could trust that what they were posting was accurate. Plus it was fun to earn the respect of fellow A.netters....
Jump to postChina manufactured the MD-80/90 series under license from McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing. This is just using the jigs supplied and tweaking it a little.
Jump to postQantas - the doyen of airline safety - in 1974 jammed 673 people into a 747-238B, evacuating people from Darwin following cyclone Tracy. Jump to postThree years as a ready reserve was tough, but you couldn't pay me enough to go IFS. Talk about unskilled labor. Not hardly. Most of use have at least two years of college and the majority have a degree, some with advanced degrees including MS, MSN, MD, JD and others. We are most definitely NOT unsk...
Jump to postProst wrote:DTW Purserboy, I think you were thinking of only flight crews. Delta does have ready reserves in other job classifications.
In all honesty, when you're a crew member (guilty) you sometimes forget how other departments staffing is organized.
Are a lot of the entry level jobs at Delta flexible staffing, ready reserve, with no benefits? I mean are we talking quality jobs here, or will Delta be replacing a lot of former full-time benefitted employees with lower cost workers? Delta does not use ready reserve or any reserve system. Everyone...

According to my data (different source to Laxintl), the MD90 would command a monthly lease of 60-80k usd with a market value ranging 2.5-4mn usd.
Thx
DL has repeatedly said it has NO interest in the A380. Waaaay too much airplane. I would see them eventually ordering the A350-1000. It is the right size for long Asia flights with the right number of seats.
Jump to postIMHO in years to come as technology improves, someone may come across the remains. It was obvious that the person responsible for the accident did NOT want the wreckage found and carefully shut of ACARS and other instrumentation that would have been useful. Perhaps someday, instead of onboard flight...
Jump to postAnd don't even think about doing what Braniff did in the late 70's. We had a 727-100 with 103 seats. One flight attendant was hospitalized during the night with appendicitis and they could not get a replacement f/a to the station in time for the scheduled departure. So some not-so-smart guy gets the...
Jump to postI would look to see an A359 add-on order before too much longer. Unless they already have reserved some slots on the production line.
Isn't the A359 eventually to be built in Alabama, too?
The Daily Press is reporting that a 1000 press conference this morning will announce the start of service with Elite Airways.

The latest issue of Airliner World say that Delta has purchased six MD-11F's from Boeing. This has to be a mistake. With all the DC-10's long since retired they have no need for spares and they certainly have not made any noise about restarting a freighter operation. So I have come to the conclusion...
Jump to postIn a word--no. The slide rafts are equipped to accept the weight of about 100 people. They are quite sturdy.
Jump to postDL already has a large financial stake and a good relationship with GOL. Avianca would be a good fit short of flying DL metal to Latam.
Jump to postAirplane evacuations are the wrong place as an entertainment venue. There are enough videos online that you can watch. Seriously - I've seen thousands of videos and I'm 100% certain that I would still be unsure what I'm doing. A couple of goes in a simulation drill would do wonders. Of course you d...
Jump to postI've suggested it before in another thread about (the pointlessness of) the safety video; I think a programme to provide airport simulators for evacuation drills would be a) very educational and b) fun. I myself would certainly like to try it out to see exactly how that overwing exit works and if I...
Jump to postI can tell you with absolute certainty that if you want to stay on a burning airplane to retrieve your bag full of dirty underwear and retrieve a precious charging cable you are too dumb to try to save. What it is going to take is another incident where the airplane explodes and those messing with t...
Jump to postYou may as well sit down and wait to choke and be consumed by flames as run out into extreme conditions without appropriate clothing. Hypothermia and death will take a matter of minutes out on an exposed runway in some conditions and well before the passengers can be taken into a warm terminal. I d...
Jump to postA fast response by the cockpit and cabin crew. Thankfully all aboard are safe and sound. AA had a similar uncontained engine failure on a 763 in LAX a few years ago during a maintenance runup. She was scrapped on sight, just as I am sure this one will be after the investigators are finished with it....
Jump to postDL operates 10 77L's but with the A350-900's coming on line next year I can't see them ordering any more.
Jump to postDL has Asia well covered out of DTW and MSP or through SEA. There would be no need to add ORD to the list unless it is through a JV. Now I could give a good argument for ORD-AMS, ORD-LHR rather than Asia. But with the exchange rate between the Euro and Sterling against the dollar being so low it is ...
Jump to postLGA's problem is geographic. Unless the City of New York decides to relocated Rikers Island Prison (not likely) there is no additional land available. For more parking I guess they will have to go underground.
Jump to postFor those who say this "passport purple" isn't part of the brand, I have a sneaking suspicion that we will see more and more of this color as we near the 2018 official rollout. There is already purple accents in the new concourse B Sky Club at ATL. I'd look for more of this in the coming ...
Jump to postI want to say at the outset that I state this as a non-American, therefore my perception may be off. But... isn't Land's End a former Sears label? Therefore, it is a bit (read: a lot) downmarket? In contrast, Delta London uses Vivienne Westwood, but Delta uses... Sears . Ew. Actually, Land's End is...
Jump to postOne problem is that many 757's are simply running out of cycles and/or airframe hours. Delta is scrapping a number of them. Another thing to remember is that airplanes are designed around engines, not the other way around. A clean sheet airplane made of composites with a twin aisle for rapid turnaro...
Jump to postQuoting smi0006 (Reply 8):Good to see AF security took this seriously, and returned to JNB. Jump to postI saw a BA 787 on approach to BOS yesterday afternoon (9/8) at 4:30pm. Tried to check TheBAsouce.com on movements bu...
Jump to postIt should be jail-time. Bad behavior on aircraft needs to be deterred IMHO. I don't think it can really be deterred, given that it's usually something that happens while drunk. Only thing that really comes to mind is per-passenger alcohol sales limits, or something. Guy is going to have a hard time...
Jump to postTK had developed a reputation for high quality service, a rapidly advancing fleet--things were looking so bright until the present political situation took hold. Jump to postOne of the problems, in addition to the higher costs of having the food screened by security and prepared by cleared workers is the exorbitant rents charged by the airports to the vendors. Jump to postI doubt anyone lied to you ..knowingly... The person on the phone is sitting in a cubical in some call center who knows where. Jump to postLY wisely chose an enhanced security presence at every airport they fly to after a hijacking attempt in the early 70's. Jump to postSeafood is generally not an option for the pilots although occasionally one will make a quiet request. I have looked at this food for nearly 40 years and none of it appeals to me. Jump to postMy wife is a runner. The vast majority of running bibs (the paper with the number that is pinned to the shirt) have chips. Jump to postHow quickly we forget. Prior to 9/11 all airport screenings were done by private contractors. The establishmen...
Jump to postThe six wheel main bogey spreads the weight out more evenly for tarmac and runway use. Reminds me of when McDonnell Douglas added the center gear to the DC-10-30/40 series.
Jump to postDoes anyone see DL opting to convert or add the A350-1000 to the -900 order? They could use the additional capacity on some routes.
Jump to postI'm guessing around 300 like their 777s (which are currently 37/36/218). The A350 will have a smaller J cabin than that, but it is also expected to have a more spacious Y+ product, vs the current Y with just more legroom as currently featured on DL's aircraft. OK, down ~85 seats. Does that mean the...

Jump to postThe not-so-quiet dismantling of the NRT hub is having a lot of repercussions.
