Re: AA CLT growth

I don’t think anything is wrong with E, they are building a large food court at the D and E Connector, some new lightning and terrazzo Flooring would do the trick. And an AC lounge -- E really needs one of it's own. Travel time to the one in C is pretty long if you're connecting entirely in E, and ...

Re: Piedmont..............gone 30 years

For decades after, whenever I had great customer service either in the air or on the phone with USAirways, it almost always turned out to be someone who had been part of the Piedmont family. My time traveling with them definitely spoiled me and set a high bar for what I expect an airline should deli...

Re: Final Passenger flight for the Boeing 727

A sad day indeed. The TWA 727 in the original twin-globes livery was always one of the best looking plane out there (in case you couldn't tell by my username :D ), back to my first trip on one as a wee lad. I looked forward to riding on them every chance I could.

Re: Weirdest Connections You've Ever Made

I did ROA-ORD-ARN-BKK one time in order to get to BKK on an award ticket.

We had an 8+ hour layover in ARN, so we brought heavy winter coats to explore Stockholm (it was January) that were really quite unnecessary once we got to Bangkok.

Re: Airline livery you miss the most

The TWA "twin-globes" livery is the one for me, probably because it's the one I grew up with when. When we got a take a flight across country every couple of years it was always on TWA, and that was the branding at the time. I even had a plastic model 727 with that livery in my bedroom for...

Will the Concourse B & C renovations include widening of the concourses? They are incredibly crowded now that the average a/c AA uses now is larger compared to what LUS used over 20 years ago. This article (from last fall) says there's still a plan to bump-out one side of Concourse B & C to...

Re: Safe airlines around Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia?

If they're going where you're going, Bangkok Airways (PG) is worth a look too. They are a small airline with a limited route network. However, rather than sell themselves as discount / no-frills airline, they've positioned themselves to be a boutique airline with better service some specialized rout...

Re: Does the Tailcone Emergency Exit On The MD-80 Still Operate With American Operators?

It is still operational, but very rarely used anymore in normal ops. I've seen it used one time for passenger enplanements in the last 5 years. That was a Delta MD-88 at Grand Cayman. Since it is an emergency exit, I believe it has to be kept operable, in the event it is needed in an emergency. The...

Re: 747-8F vs 777F

I am willing to bet the current acquisition cost for a 747-8F is less than a 777-F. For small package express the 777 can get from Asia back to the US in time for the overnight sort. DHL and FedEx both beat UPS by a day. This isn't accurate. Look at the great circle routing for HKG-SDF. Pretty clos...

Re: AA Flight attendant still working at 81

DL’s number 1 a few years ago was 89! Sort of ridiculous, imagine an 80+ person handling an emergency evacuation. Everyone doesn't age at the same rate -- I'd say we should let people do their job as long as they can meet the requirements for qualification. Heck, after 80+ years, a flight attendant...

I also would have preferred the classic twin-globe livery -- I've loved that look since I was about ten years old and build my first plastic model TWA 727. I liked it so much that that's where my username came from! Still, I'd rather have the retro jet program in this form than not at all, and at le...

While I don't disagree that US Airways is having some tough times, Lauer's comments like "It's worrisome, if you extrapolate that ($134 million) loss throughout the year" don't seem terribly useful. As memory serves, even in profitable years airlines often see considerable losses in winter months. A...
