Re: Canadian Aviation Thread - 2018

Sorry guys I meant A320s and the systems are very poor for entertainment on these. Pleased to hear of good long haul options. Not so pleased today at YYZ to have to pay over 30 CAD to check a bag !! Maybe one day airlines will learn to use their loyalty programs to attract new patrons and not just r...

Re: Canadian Aviation Thread - 2018

Planning to relocate to Toronto in the summer so the thread is timely. Have been flying YYZ/LGA regularly for some time. AC and WS use 737s which seem more predictable in the winter than AA embraer. AC have a major issue with their in flight entertainment, old, often broken and slow. Also concerned ...

Yet you chose a Y fare instead of the Y+ or Saga fare which would have given you access to some or all of the above perceived gripes (No meal, No Lounge).

So a mixture of valuable and uninformed feedback. I was there for three uncomfortable hours traveling on an airline that does not provide meals by default but does ask you to connect Of course wine bars and northern lights were a hyperbole but a far better infrastructure is certainly needed. In part...

The shame that is KEF

I booked late to return from Paris to New York yesterday and took the option to fly Icelandair via KEF. For the money I really liked the airline, extremely friendly. I was also looking forward to stopping in a new country that sounds exciting. However KEF is simply shameful. Not even enough toilet f...

Flightradar24 shows this is an A380-841. Mark is D-AIMK. I have a good view of JFK traffic from my apartment and there are planes everywhere at the moment.

Not a plane in the sky over JFK right now

Re: LAMIA RJ85 crashes in Colombia

I was going to ask about the glide ratio for the aircraft given it was at 9000ft and only 8.1 miles from the airport which is more than enough to attempt a glide landing. However I just checked the elevation of MDE and at 7000ft the clearance is too short for the glide ratio of 17/1. The clearance o...

RE: Egypt Air 804 Paris-Cairo Missing Part 3

This was the most stable part of any normal flight, at cruising altitude. Things can go wrong but not so common. The loss of communication and the turns are the most significant clues to date. With regard to the turns and taking a lead from richierich I doubt reverse thrusting would be possible, eve...

RE: SQ836 Lost Power To Both Engines, Drops 13000 Feet

Both the lack of diversion and the quick flight turnaroud must mean that the crew and airline had no doubt what the issue was and that it was fully resolved in flight. The options for that are very limited and include someone turning the engines off, someone fiddling with the fuel or something relat...

It comes back to the old question on this issue. Is it really really possible to make a plane of this size completely disappear in this way. I hate to imagine a conspiracy mainly because it begs the question "What happened to the passengers ?"
