Pretty amazing how poorly Alaska, JetBlue and Southwest have done in Mexico City. Agree, if the LCCs wont use the slots as intended, giving them to United is a good outcome and provides for competition against AM/DL which was entire point of the slot divestiture. There have been surveys suggesting a basic economy is at least under consideration. Given their insistence that they will never charge for bags I would assume that it would probably be something like one bag and boarding group D sort of deal.

Wasn't there some sort of cabotage waiver in American Samoa fairly recently? I'm not familiar with the situation but I do remember seeing that it was one of the rare times where a foreign carrier was allowed to fly a US domestic route.

I'm pretty sure that UA had some parked at both Houston airports (IAH and HOU). The ones at HOU were parked on runway 17/35 as well as some spots along the west side of the field. They were to be ferried out to Goodyear so I'm not sure if any are still in Houston now.

Departures have been slowly trickling out all day. I really can't see IAH actually staying closed to arrivals until tomorrow afternoon once the rain stops/slows enough to allow the surface roads to become passable.

Depends on the time of year. A short connection in a snow-prone city might turn into a misconnect in December, but wouldn't be an issue in October. In my opinion B6 seemed out of place at HOU. As for convenience despite being slightly closer to HOU in terms of distance IAH is usually quicker and easier for me to get to. The roads to HOU are generally terrible and always seem to be backed up even outside of rush hours.
