The FAA sure isn't helping matters. The MAX should have been flying a few months ago yet is still grounded by the FAA dragging their feet. If they truly demanded the firing of the Boeing CEO, that's outrageous as well (although I think he needed to go, that is not a decision for an outside authority...

I have a buddy who flies AA DFW MIA every week, Monday in, Thursday evening out. I hear a story every other week of delays, canceled flights and even a couple of diversions due to various issues. He repeatedly tells me there is no love for the client on AA.

The airlines avoid the federal excise tax by not including fees within the ticket prices. Stop bitching and fix the tax base and then this whole issue goes away and bags become "free" again (well embedded in the price of the ticket).
