Happy New Year!

I was on the last scheduled UA744 LAXORD on Oct-30 2004. Great ride!

Guys, let's stick to the topic. Is N176UA back in operation or not?

Jump to postSo how many total ex-UA 744 did Corsair get? So far we have:
N186UA
N188UA
N189UA
N191UA
Thanks,

So how many 744 in the desert still belong to UA? 3-4? Does anybody know the regs?
Thanks
JC

Good move!
N218UA should be leaving gate B17 any time now as UA 0835 ORDPVG.
Jump to postUA 6 is in the air as I type:

Good to see some new birds in Bulgaria. This new Hemus livery looks great!
JC
Austrian via VIE is $698.70 in Sept (from Travelocity) - incl. fees and taxes. That's one pretty good fare IMHO. Regards,
JC
Just a wild guess, but maybe the revenue/loads generated on those flights does not justify the 744. I think they now operate ORDLAX and ORDSFO.
JC
SHUPirate,
The 3700nm range is cited for the the 75t version with 124 passengers. I was wondering what version (MTOW) Frontier flies. What about ETOPS?
Can their 319s make it to HNL from LAX? Just wondering...
JC
"One of the advantages of the original 330/340 wing is that it could be used with two or four engines" I wouldn't call it an advantage - it was limiting the performance of the 340-300, and a new wing had to be designed for the 340-500/600. The wing was also the reason why the 330 didn't find much us...
Jump to postLaxintl,
Are the 2-cabin 777s going back to the lessors? Just noticed that there are no 777 flying to Hawaii next spring.
JC
OK, so it's Ethernet. I wish it was wireless (Wi-Fi), but maybe they don't want radio signals messing up with the communication equipment in the cockpit.
Thanks,
JC
Britair,
Was your laptop hooked to the seat via cable? Where on the laptop was the cable plugged in (USB, Ethernet connector)?
JC
Britair,
Was it a wireless connection or a cable (Ethernet?)
Thanks,
JC
Just wondering,
Why would they get rid of some 777As? I though that they were a good fit for Atlantic ops. And who would be a potential customer for non-ER 777s?
JC
UA744Flagship,
Thank you for the great site! I wish all the best to United and its employees (I could have been one of them now...). And let's hope that people will continue to support United through this period. I, for one, will.
JC
JU101, IIRC, the 2 733s were leased in Jun'02 for a period of 10 months only - that's why they are due back in Apr. Some local newspapers report that decison about the new fleet should be made by Feb, which is consistent with the returning of the 733s. I wonder, now that UAL is almost in Chapter 11,...
Jump to postUAL might stand a chance to reorganize under Ch.11 IF they get the ATSB loan. Otherwise, I'm affraid, it won't be pretty...
JC
I have the feeling that Ch.11 seems the only alternative, but UA is trying to get the ATSB loan first. Just like US Airways - their loan application was approved, and they went to court. Makes sense that even under Chapter 11, they will still benefit from the government approved loan while re-struct...
Jump to postGmunich,
I believe the name "Balkan Air Tours" was changed to "Balkan Air" to better fit the new national carrier. The name makes sense to me.
JC
Only 49% of the new "Balkan Air" will be for sale, so no take over whatsoever. Just partial ownewrship. The state will keep 50+% stake in the new airline, at least for now. So far noone ever mentioned JAT as one of the potential invesrtors, but who knows... Lots of airlines have increased their serv...
Jump to postWord is that almost half of UA 744s are in the desert already. Can someone confirm this?
JC
AMR - 924 M (incl. special items); 475M is operating loss only
UAL - 889 M total, 504 M operating loss
AMR is not in good shape either.
JC
Gmunich, I absolutely agree with you - DU will make a perfect regional feeder for the new airline. I read somewhere that there is interest from several investors. One is the Russian aviation Consortium - their plan includes a fleet of Western and Russian types, and making SOF a hub for flights from ...

I don't think a 717 lease is likely at all. LZ has operated 737s since 1990 (with some brief interruptions) so they already have trained crews and mechanics. They are simply not in financial position to introduce a new type. So if they order anything at all, you can bet it will be 737s.
JC
Fresh from one of the local newspapers: A Boeing team lead by their Regional Director for Southeast Europe will visit Sofia to meet with Balkan officials regarding the proposed lease of new Boeings. Apparently Airbus has recently also offered LZ some A/C, but airline officials consider them to be to...

Jump to postThe text on the picture explains it - it is an ex-Gulf air, ex-Malev A/C, which is leased by LOT for Universal. This was done so they can bring back SP-LPB to the fleet due to the increase in summer traffic (it is still in Universal colors, but operates LOT flights). The lease to Universal is "wet l...
Jump to postRizzibird, The delivery of Balkan's 733s was delayed twice due to re-registration (according to one of the local newspapers). I don't know if the first has arrived in Sofia yet. Hello,
Do you know if ANA will return on NAR to ORD this year? I know that they decided to temporarily withdraw from the route after 9/11. Is there any chance for them to return to Chicago?
Thanks
JC
Hello,
I am booked on AC ORD to YVR in July, but I have never flown on Air Canada or the 319. What should I expect?
Thanks,
JC
Will the A/C be in Airbus house colors? Which A/C will be used for the flight? Probably not the first prototype, which had the gear damage from the high-weight landing test.
JC
LZ (Balkan) will lease 2 of LH's 733 from April'02. Financing is provided from the sale of LHR slots to BA.

Did you notice that the A/C on one of the pictures is LZ-TPC, but the other one is LZ-PTC? According to Bill Harm's site there is only one ex-LZ - registered Tristar: 1152 L1011-1(1) RB211-22B 07/27/78 DUCOR WORLD AIRLINES 3C-QQX N337EA, D-AERP, LZ-TPC [PARKED @ OST][CONV TO FRTR][NEW NAME, WAS LIBE...
Jump to postIt was reported in one of the local newspapers that LZ will be leasing a 737 again (probably -300). The picture they showed was of one of their previous 733s (LZ-BOF), so I assumed that the new one has not arrived yet. Good to hear that they are back on track.
BTW, how was the TU5?
JC
A couple of motnhs ago the A/C used for the NASA tests (RA-77114) was put for sale on ebay for $10M. I'm a big fan of United. I love the airline, the scheme, the planes, ORD, the whole thing. I am glad that the merger didn't go through and I sure hope they will be rising again.

UA's 777A have the PW4077 engines, while the ERs have the more powerful PW4090.
