The lav tank is a standard tank/toilet, non-vacuum style.

The vent ducting is plumbed out the top of the tank, runs up the sidewall to the ceiling, and back down to the exhaust, so as to not let any liquid out the vent.

Yes, the 747 packs are very noisy. They are the 3 wheel design, similar to the 757, only larger. They do have a distinctive sound to them, and it is loud. Hearing protection is a must.

Yeah, I miss the JT8. The last time I touched one was OCT 2001, and all I did was top off the oil. I always had a case of oil handy, every time a 727 with JT8's came in.
