Just because a plane flies full, doesn't mean the airline is making a profit. Sure there could be an addressable market of hundreds of thousands of people but what are they willing to pay? India is a notoriously price-sensitive market and the economics of ATL-MAA nonstop will likely not work out.

For me the reasons are personal so the type will always hold a special place in my heart. Over the years I've had between 500 - 600 flights on AA MD-80/83s with about another 100 flights on DL MD-88/90s, AS MD-83s, HA 717s.

The "crash" of JL2 was so smooth, most passengers did not realize the plane accidentally ditched. DC-8 JA8032 was fished out of the water, repaired, and flew into the 1990s.

I believe a major public venue should only be named after a person at least a decade after they have died. This gives time to assess their actual contribution and positive impact they had on society. I'm sure something will be named after Senator McCain but the rush to so is unnecessary.

I've deplaned via airstairs at SFO in the 90s.

Fuzzy memories of the 80s and I could be wrong but I seem to recall Pan Am 747s sometimes boarded at a remote stand at JFK.
