I recall when one of my former Duty Managers took a Blackbelt team job. I asked him why he was switching from a manager role to a team role. He said half of his crew was making more money than he did due to overtime. He directly had little control if one of our planes made it out of C check on time,...
Jump to postEverything costs more now. Why should anyone expect FFM to be any different? A business class ticket to Europe that used to cost me 120,000 miles is now 400,000 miles…I don’t think their costs have gone up 234%. I doubt it's about costs. It more like the opportunity to sell the Full fare ticket vs ...
Jump to postI think what we will really see out of the short term from the Ultra Fan project is improved blade technology moving down to the other Trent families. The next gen blades are getting ready to hit the 1000 and 7000 fleets soon with projected increases of life.
Jump to postEveryone seems to focus on the pilot cost savings for regional operations. Wages and benefits for all the employees at a regional are a huge cut from mainline. Many times the above and below wing gate crew is 100% contract with minimal benefits and close to min wage. Cabin crew and maintenance are u...
Jump to postI've heard it was a lease that was too good to turn down. The not as good selling 330NEO will be both good and bad for the decision making in the near future. Good for the cheap price and availability but not as good since more and more airlines are not choosing in to replace the older 330CEO. Will...
Jump to postHe says it in his post, for GEnx MRO work. The GE engine is better on the 787 than the RR, anyways. Plus GE has friends in DL now with the appointment of several ex-GE execs over the past few years. Is DL performing maintenance on the Trent 7000 and XWB Rollers now? If so shouldn't be an issue to a...

Jump to postWhen I was at Riddle in the late 80's there were a bunch of propliners sitting over by the firehouse. I think they were Convairs. The crew seat rework is not tied to a cabin refit. They get removed and inspected at various 'C' check visits. Seat covers are the big wear items and be changed when ever they are worn. Most inspection programs I've dealt with also remove the cabin seats at least once in the cycle of checks. Usually...
Jump to postThis is the problem with the whole FAA system: Too much power is placed in the hands of low-level individuals with no accountability. If you run an airline and "your" fed says you can't do something, you can't do it. It doesn't matter if all of your competitors can do it or that the regs ...
Jump to postIt could also be a history issue with Horizon. If they have had a lot of repeat write ups on TCAS the local FAA maybe dropping the hammer on them for abusing the MEL limits. Jump to postHow does the accounting on that work though? They lowered their estimate but did not reach a contract, so doesn't that mean they would've beat their lowered estimate by a ton? Jump to postInteresting. I guess my big question is why can’t DL expand at MSP (or elsewhere)? Why couldn’t they do some parts work at MSP (or elsewhere) to minimize any cost increase? If it’s such profitable work, the long-term plan should be to expand to allow more work. Like 777Mech says It's the sunk costs...
Jump to postIf DL ordered the 788 would it be better to go with GE and not Rolls Royce? Again just not to put all of your eggs in one basket. Yeah n471wn was proving their own point about DL having acquired 6 as opposed to 9 as suggested by other posters.
Why is DL acquiring new 717s, I thought they were going to start phasing them out?
DL does heavy MX on HA's 332s with RR engines. Engine commonality might be less of an issue than it outwardly seems. Heavy maintenance doesn’t normally include engine overhaul, might include minor maintenance etc, not overhaul ,most airlines have power by the hour contracts if they don’t do their o...

Jump to postIt depends on the deals the MRO has with the OEM or customer Some contracts state that everything must come from the OEM. Jump to postYes there is a strong rumor DL is acquiring some used 717 for parts. I've heard the green time engines are the real target. Jump to postWhy is the 737 fuselage built is Wichita? The simple answer is that is where the plant is. They were large enough to build the nar...

Jump to postI think it's more about how the Rolls Civil side is currently a drag on the company. With the widebody flying now coming back that will help with the cash flow from power by the hour. Jump to postSome of that GSE stuff stays around for ever. I think the jet tug in this picture is still in use in BOS for Delta.
I've had a lot of experience repairing lightning strikes. I would call this extreme damage. Most damage is a small burn mark or at most a pin hole for fuselage damage. For wing and stab trailing edges it is not uncommon to see a static wick completely exploded off, but not usually this bad.
