Follow me cars are used a lot when LVP's are in place in my experience. In fact, at some airports it is mandatory to have follow me vehicle assistance for taxiing during LVP's.

I too had similar problems with Vodafone. I found their service to be dire at the best of times (I have an iPhone 4). I'm now with O2, and in my experience they are much better.
