There are a few threads on this topic. (Just do a quick search)

I shoot in AV priority (f6.3 to f8). I try to keep my ISO as low as possible. As long as my shutter speed is fast enough.

I recommend NO filter. Filters can degrade image quality, due to cheap glass.

The 450D is a good camera, I haven't heard anything bad about.

The image quality is great on this lens. Some say it's L quality. Build is ok, there was some issues with lens barrel wobble. I think canon fixed that though.

RE: What Cameras Are People Using - Canon 350d?

If you can afford it, go for it. I wouldn't think changing the lens would be such a big deal that you would have to buy another camera body. The 40d has 6 fps and a better focusing then the 350d. (I think). I would just use the 40d for both landscape and aviation. It is a good idea to have a backup ...

I have always thought that RAWs look softer due to in-camera settings. When you shoot jpeg they are sharpened a little bit in the camera. RAW is the actual image like a negative, for some reason the RAW is softer. (this is what I experienced so maybe its just me)

You could ask the F/A's or wait till they sit down.
I usually always have the window seat so I put my camera against the corner or nest to the seat. Then I put my legs in front of it to block the view. Or put a pillow or blanket over it.

In RAW you can change the white balance. You know if you leave the camera in florescent setting and shoot outdoors all of the pictures come out yellow. In RAW you could change that yellow color.
RAW is like a negative. Its all of the data. Whereas JPEG it is compressed.
